I'm having my stock wheels done this weekend in Metallic Anthracite. Product is similar to Plastidip, called Foliatec.

From what I've seen in person, it's a lovely shade of black with metallic look. As an added bonus I'm having the brake calipers done in 'Rot Red'(believe it's matte red, also from Foliatec) to match the new wheel color.

For now these pics is all I have closer to what should be my finished stuff. Friday can't come soon enough.

Anyone have a better way to remove plastidip from around the lugs than just picking? Everything else came off easily but this is going to take forever. The pressure washer helped a little but it's not getting the job done.

So I have decided to plastidip my wheels as well and I know it's supposed to be easy but I'm looking for some advice so I get the color I want and don't screw it up lol

I'm looking to get as close to this color as possible (anthracite/graphite)

I was looking at the plastidip on dipyourcar.com and wanted to get the anthracite grey from their "true metallic line".

But in order to achieve the color I want:
What would be the best color for a base coat?
Would I need to add an enhancer color to it?
I want the wheels to have a hint of gloss to them as I don't really want a matte look.

Thank you for anybody who can chime in and give a plastidip noob some advice!

You aren't going to get a good glossy finish. The "glossifier" will give it a decent satin finish. I just took the vintage gold with glossifier off my wheels because I wasn't at all happy with the way it looked. Just gold colored latex.

Do you think that since it's metallic it will have a shine like the pictures above or be more of a matte color still once applied?

i bought the plastidip disolver from dipyourcar.com, your spray let sit, then spray again. and it liquifies it. then powerwash it away. i did all four wheels and it took 1/4 bottle. so it will last for future ones.

The vintage gold is a metallic and it didn't shine very much. Apparently I didn't get any pics while it was on (just a couple weeks). It's not that expensive so I wouldn't fret, just try it and peel if you don't like it. Dipyourcar sells the 4 wheel kits, 4 cans of color and 2 glossifier for like $60. I only used about 2 and a half.

What color wheels are you doing? If they're silver you won't need any basecoat. On black you might want to think about white but might be fine.

Doh, forgot to update.. I was in a rush and couldn't wait to order anything. I sprayed on WD40, let it soak, hit it with a brush just enough to agitate and it pressure washed right off. The dopes on the BMW forum that suggested WD40 all seemed to think it will ruin your paint but it won't. The WD40 website even calls it paint-safe in their FAQ.

That's true. I will be doing the OEM wheels.

I did my gold on Enkei silver and didn't need any kind of basecoat. I did my stockers blaze orange and used about 2 cans per wheel before trying a white basecoat on the last wheel where half a can of the orange looked better than any of the others. Might want to just pick up a can of white to be safe - you won't have to go very heavy with it and you can get it at Walmart.
