I have 7 small screws that hold a plate in my pelvis. They were something like 100 bucks each. They are basically just medical grade stainless machine screws. I don’t remember what the plate cost but it is really nothing more then a stainless piece of plumbing strap.

I thought this would be more appropriate here then the meme thread.

And don't even get me started on the symbiotic relationship between out of control healthcare costs and insurance coverage. For those with insurance, the limited liability it represents allows some of the costs of care we see.

For example, my father-in-law had a situation where he had to be life flighted 12 air miles from one hospital to another because the surgeon that was needed for his life-saving procedure was only available at the second hospital. He had no option, and was given none.

The bill for that 12 mile flight was over $25,000. Insurance covered 90% of it, and the rest was eventually waived (he is on Medicare, and retirement income only). Yes, it was a life-saving flight, and it had highly trained personnel on board, but did it really cost $25,000 for a less than 10 minute flight? Without insurance, services like this would either have to charge a reasonable fee, or they would not exist I suppose.
We had a plastic surgeon say he wasn’t coming to stitch up a 17 year old girl’s ear which was part of a 8” evulsion lac that was barely hanging on. Why? Because she didn’t meet trauma criteria and wasn’t alerted as a trauma, so he can’t bill it like a trauma, so bla bla he wasn’t coming, so we alerted it, and now her insurance has a huge bill because everything is being raised to the status of a trauma versus an injury, but technically he was only on call for traumas, and the rest was his discretion. Stupid. I see this stuff all the time. We had a guy get flown all the way here from another hospital for a neurosurgeon eval to say the guy was brain dead when our neurosurgeon offered to remotely look at the images, but they refused.

There is so much waste on a weakly basis. There are many reasons why there is waste. Two reasons I attribute this to the most are physicians and hospitals wanting to get paid for services performed or wanting to pass the responsibility to another facility. Another reason is avoiding malpractice lawsuits, so they are overly cautious.

I updated my vaccine day from next Wednesday to Monday. I accidentally chose a distant location because it defaulted to that. Now I have to drive less, and I get it two days sooner. Win win.

Is that like a "birthday"? New craze, vaccine day dates tattooed across delicate parts of one's body...

Seen that a few acquaintances / old high school friends who are first responders have gotten the vaccine in the past couple of days. Curious to see if they’ll post how it goes.

Look for personality change. It can be subtle.

Lol, my governor now says (as of Thursday) you have to either test negative for coronavirus or quarantine for 10 days if you travel out of state. Has nobody told him that test results are already 10 days out from when you first want to get tested? I suppose you could get a rapid test out of state first, but that's likely to be the least accurate. They aren't going to enforce it, but either he doesn't realize that he hasn't actually given an option, or he has purposely included an option to make his statement seem less authoritarian. Either way, it pissed me off.

Still no results on my test, but it's only been a day and a half.

Sorry for this further interruption, back to vaccines.

My mother needed to be tested earlier this week for a procedure she has next week. I think she had her result in like 2 or 3 days. But yeah that’s the ideal amount of time. It’s impossible to expect everyone to have that kind of turnaround.

We are going into a tier 3 lockdown one minute past midnight tonight.. meaning tighter restrictions over the Xmas period.

Also hearing that the virus is mutating, it's getting better at transfering from one host to another.. Subaru should take a leaf out of its book, series 2 in the space of one year!!
