They raise temps underneath.


Honestly, I don't know. I never considered tunnel temps before reading @rice_classic's tales of melted CV boots and hot transmissions.

That’s an interesting thought, I’ve never really thought about how incoming air is designed to continue through the engine bay into the tunnel, cooling the transmission and other various drivetrain pieces in the process. Or whatever fwd has aft of the engine.

It would be cool if a company made a vent like the Civic Type R has. I BELIEVE it’s purpose is to ram air straight into the transmission tunnel. This then creates a low pressure area or some other magic and can then begin to suck the engine bay heat into the transmission tunnel.

I did a search and came up with Zilch. Any ideas where? I`d like a read.

Here's some discussion in his build thread. I have to find where he discusses transmission temps. Honestly, the possible detrimental effect of venting the hood is pure theory. The underside aero is all deliberate, and the exhaust heat must be shed. If I was considering a vented hood, I would take readings at key areas. One in particular is the hot spot in front of the right side sway bushing. Then I'd pull the hood and repeat the test.



Maybe there's no difference underneath. I almost feel bad for mentioning it.

Okay thanks for that. I did read a thread by Verus Engineering on their temps with and w/o the vents. They measured mild temp drops around the coil pack areas.
The main reason I want some heat relief from the vents is the freshly installed Oil Cooker.

That is basically right where my duct sits. It pulls enough air it actually causes a weird swirl pattern on my windshield in the rain.

Extended the middle vent rain guards so rain doesn`t pour all over the turbo. Outer vents are fine. Restriction is not an issue as they get removed at the track.

Im pretty sure I read in one of the known publications, that the hood vent is for ECU temps.

Couldn`t help myself. I extended all the rain guards,for better run off clearance, and painted them with a brush. Camera actually looks worse than by eye. Etch primer first then satin black polyurethane.
