it's kinda telling of the overall health of the website when the most active sub forum is the off-topic one lol

Reminds me of something going on over at CadillacForums. The most active subforum there is the LYRIQ/EV Subforum. The long-termers there actually complain about it because it dominates the "New Posts" section. Trust me, they consider it "off topic"! A meander all over the other subforums though because I love old Cadillacs.

It seems I'm only having issues trying to use the "New Posts" function at the top of the forum interface.

Yep, heaps of errors here. Can’t search, can’t use new posts.
Also, has Tapatalk been disabled? I can’t even seem to get it to work. Thanks |

What's the point of having site admins if they are just going to ignore the errors?

Database errors aren't something that a forum admin can handle. They are a back end problem and the hosting provider has to fix them. The forum admins don't have access to the back end of the site.

It depends on the host. Do they provide the SaaS or just compute?

I would expect that they are using a provider that has been around a very long time since the version of vBulletin they are using is so old. Either way, it's not generally good practice to give forum admins access to the back end unless they are also actually part of the staff for the hosting side. |

Isn't that the point though? The Admin can upgrade to a newer version? I had a friend that had a forum and he was always upgrading, mostly to stay ahead of spam.

Also, I've been down this path both personally through running forums and volunteering for my local SCCA region as well as professionally. When software starts falling behind too far it's almost impossible to get it updated without some major work. Nobody wants to lose data/history so instead of risking regular updates they just stop updating. That seems to be where we are now. Unfortunately, when you stop updating you also lose support. When you start having operational errors like we're currently experiencing then you're on your own because you aren't up to date. Sadly, unless the actual site/hosting admins decide to do something, I think the forum is eventually just going to fail to a point where it will no longer be usable. |
