2017 Key Not Detected issue

Hi guys. Does anyone else here get that Key Not Detected issue if the fob is in your pocket for a 2017?

With the key in your pocket, it starts fine. BUT if you open your door or the passenger door the message won't disappear but the car will still run.

If I place the key fob in that little compartment near the shifter it's not a problem.

So confused as to why it does this! It's frustrating because I gotta plan for it if I'm picking up a guest.

I had this happen one time and I had to start my car and shut it off with the doors closed. Then it stopped nagging me.

I think its they key fob battery, when i bought the car i kinda of eerie of the fact that they was no key ignition in which, so i had a lot of questions...

for ex, how do i start the car if the key fob dies?

anyhow the dealer told me that if it doesnt start beacuse of the fob, hold the fob next to the ignition button and the car should start.

Never had an issue with this. I've started my car with my key in my shorts pocket, jacket pocket, or in a gym bag on the passenger seat and it always works. Often start with the driver's door open too. When it's in my shorts pocket it's always on my left side and there are about a half dozen keys with it but still no issue being detected.

Have you tried with your spare key, to see if the issue is with the key (battery maybe?) or something in the car itself?

just put they key even if discharged very close to the start button and it will work

if it dies you will also have to open the door with the physical key inside of it

Haven't had this issue at all in one year of ownership.

I've even started the car, grabbed something to throw away, opened the door, walked 15 ft over to the trash bin, and walked back. All the while the car continued running without messages.

I get this issue when my key is next to my wallet in my pocket. The issue was apparently the RFID BLOCKING in my wallet

I tested my spare key once when I first got the car, then put the fob in a drawer. When the battery in my primary fob went out, I pulled out my spare key... And it was also dead.

New batteries in both fixed them. The moral of the story is that it could still be the battery if your never-used backup fob also doesn't work.

There's a book in the glove box that has all sorts of handy information. How to start it with a dead key fob battery is in that book.
