Glocks are ugly and boring and made of plastic. I don't like them. That being said, I own two G23s. They just plain work. I don't revere them like my 45s, but trust them with my life, absolutely. Either of them or the SA XDm are my carry weapons.

The G19 would be my recommendation for someone who just wanted one gun with some extra G17 mags.

You obviously weren't looking at anything from Wilson Combat. Hell, my Kimber Ultra was the price of many used cars.

Nice, no BS full size 1911 at an affordable price, check out the Ruger SR1911. I love mine. All the necessary reliability mods and nothing more. Runs like a top and looks better than the price.

Thats why I chose it. If I'm gonna get one the G19 is it. Small enough to carry but not super tiny like a shield

Glock hasnt been cleaned in 6 trips and no problems. Every other gun I tried has jammed at least once during use and they were cleaned regularely

If you like the looks of a 1911 or a browning hi-power then you'll have a deep appreciation for the CZ75. Neither of these are striker fired however but that's the great things about guns.. You don't have to choose just one. Different models for different tastes and uses.

Never liked how little of the slide is available to grab onto to rack a CZ.

Kimber 1911 is another to check out. Although, I really like my S&W Pro for the value.

This really boils down to what you want out of this gun.
My post will be under the assumption that this is your first handgun purchase:

Your first handgun purchase, to me, should be a versatile one. It should be a gun you would be okay shooting a lot of rounds through for practice. This means possibly going for something less shiney with less oo-ahh effect and focusing more on utilitarian benefits and with the option of cheap enough ammo. For some, this can be anything, for me, it means 9mm

It should also be something that is readily serviced. There are plenty of cool, dependable brands, but few have a line of parts ready to go like Glock, ruger, etc.
Additionally, this usually correlates to an array of accessories. You don't want to be limited in holster/sight/trigger/grip choices.

Of course, it should be dependable. RIA has a cool looking 1911 in 9mm for cheap. I hope to pick one up as a fun gun and a possible house backup. I would NEVER use it as a carry. 1- it is heavy and big, but 2- it is not absolutely dependable.

However, much like cars and guitars, the most important aspect, IMHO, is comfort. Comfort in conceal carry and comfort in shooting. This requires you at least holding the weapon several times, and at best being able to shoot them back to back.

My first handgun purchase was Smith and Wesson M&P Shield 9mm. Everyone who shoots it loves it. I have had zero FTFs and 3 FTE in just over 800 rounds. one failure to eject was due to improper use (Shot a round without the magazine in, so the FTE was really meaningless) and the other two came while using very cheap ammo that was a heavier grain than recommended for the weapon.

It is usually very cheap (bought mine used for $350) and I only have three possible complaints:
1: It does not come with nightsights, whereas a Glock does.
2: those with larger than average hands will likely find it uncomfortable, especially when using both hands.
3: The aftermarket is pretty good, but not as good as a glock. Glock owners have a much bigger market for used parts, too.

Plastic guns are light guns

I really want to try that Kimber out. Seems small enough to carry occasionally

G19 is so easy to shoot/maintain due to it's simple(crude?) design, not particularly amazing in any department, but that's Glock in a nutshell. Check out the HK VP9 as well, it's similar to the Sig P320 in many ways.

I carry a full size Sig SP2022. Very happy with it. Feels good in my hand. Only other gun I've handled and like the way it felt was the Berretta PX4. I also don't like the double action trigger on striker fired guns

I do highly prefer the sig over the glock. I've owned an sig226 and have shot multiple different glocks and every single one just didnt compare to my sig. Not to mention the last glock I shot couldn't get through a whole mag without jamming.
