I also dont get the "manual transmission sucks in traffic" argument also. If you're so used to driving a stick its not really an issue, its a bit annoying if it is just constant stop and go though. But even still everytime i jump into an automatic car i feel like my left leg wants to push in a clutch but it just rests there with nothing to do.....and i do find myself gripping the shifter for no real reason more often than not when im resting my arm on the armrest. |

I drove an '85 MR2 as a DD for 5 years when I lived further North (DC Metro), but I'll defer to @Tcoat on this one as he has a better argument.

Yea, this isn't my experience either. (Yes, I have an AT '86, but I've had other DD that were manuals)

Yep, didn't say it was impossible or implausible. It's going to take a toll. The salt. The gravel. The guy in front of you kicking up salt + gravel. Oops, I just scratched my paint removing that snow. Tcoat? Seen the pics of his car for sale? Not to mention, if caught in a heavy snow downpour and I slide off the road, I have much better odds of re-entry in my 4Runner Meanwhile my FR-S is pristine and warm in the garage, for nicer days. Yeah it's not some priceless collectible, but I like keeping my 'nice' cars nice. |

GTI is our family car. It's a pretty good complement to the FRS as far as enthusiast cars go. Comfy, quiet, torquey, and spacious (whereas the FRS can be jarring, loud, gutless and cramped).
That said, I daily drove my FRS for a while and it was fine. With track mods now it's a little worse, but I'd still have no issues driving it everyday. My only real complaint is loading a toddler into the rear child seat, but it's doable, just annoying.

I dont get the manual transmission sucks thing either, been driving manual in some of the shittest traffic in the US, yeah its not as lazy as being in an AT but to me that lazy AT luxury is just not worth the fun of changing gears when its not full of traffic. Plus driving manual is a big safety feature, your paying more attention to driving than one might otherwise would. I never really felt like it was that big of a deal to drive stick in bad traffic. You give youself some extra room and just cruise extra slow in 1st or 2nd. Then your not trying to cut ahead of everyone and will overall be less stressed in traffic. I also totally do the same thing in any automatic, I start stomping where the clutch would be or get confused when taking off because I can't find the clutch. The only thing about DD driving my FRS (which I do) is speed bumps, the car doesn't go over them very nicely or I have to slow to a near stop. Also having to take such extra care due to that front lip. Other than that the car has been an amazing DD for the past 6 almost 7 years I've owned her. I've been DD since the day I bought it back in 2013. |

My daily for past 13 yrs, reliable, Real cheap to run, fun (in the city) able to transport a few bikes standing inside minus front wheels, crazy big stuff FITs ...and the best: NO ONE touches it when I go into the NA car theft capital... Its moded(a type R shift knob ...that's it) It Terrifies my friend more than when I drive my BRZ! Im keeping this one even if it eats thru rear summer tires on the inside... And... Like those 4c lines from the rear. |
