Were you able to check the weight of the muffler vs stock? How's the sound from the inside the cabin & outside? Was it worth it to spend about 2k on the STI than the others that are about 50% cheaper (if you factor in import taxes & shipping)? Is the midpipe included too? I used to have the TRD Exhaust on my FRS & it was a bit loud to my liking & droney too. TIA

Sorry, I can't check the weight as it's fitted. STi exhaust is an axleback. The outside sound is perfect, beefy, not too silent and not too noisy.
The inside sound is meh, at lower revs it's a little strong, in particular around 3000 rpm (but I think every exhaust will be noticeable at that rpm), quite silent at higher revs. It worth the price if you care of the brand STi, it's particular construction and its wonderful exit pipes. Plus, this exhaust has a quiet and wonderful noise when catless... |

My understanding (happy to be corrected) is that the Fujitsubo Authorize S is a nearly identical axle-back to the STi. I haven't seen the two side by side, but the photos of each make it seem true.

From the various sound clips I've seen. The STi has more bass and growl, while the Authorise S is more plain in its tone. |

The Authorize S sounds like the stock muffler uncorked - a little bit louder and clearer tone but still very much the same plain character of the stock exhaust. The STi muffler has a more distinct character to it. More refined, very deep tone, not raspy or tinny. |

That's good info. Have you been able to find sound clips online to compare? Bonus points for catless UELs...

Discovery on STi JDM axleback and perhaps others
Finally able to report back in brief, as I installed all 5 on my car a few days back while pulling it out of winter storage (a little late, I know). Took 10 minutes with a can of WD40 to help wrestle the stock hangers off.
For reference, my exhaust setup: - JDL 4-2-1 EL Header - Stock OP/FP - Invidia R400 cat-back This setup is far from the loudest but it is not quiet when you are on throttle. Under low load it remains basically as quiet as stock in the city, but on the highway especially going up hills (where mild load is introduced) I was getting drone right in my cruising speed of 120-130kph (3400-3600rpms-ish). I’m actually alarmed at how much of a difference these hangers make. The volume of your exhaust is still there (obviously), but with literally none (!) of the cabin resonance and drone, which makes it so much more livable, especially on the highway. I was going to add an additional resonator to my setup or swap my catback to quell my drone issues on the highway, but with this quick fix, I don’t have to anymore. Thanks to @gpvecchi for sharing this with the community! PS: To any one concerned about exhaust movement with these hangers, I actually had some midpipe movement with my stock hangers that I could hear when entering driveways (midpipe touching the tunnel). With these new hangers installed, that movement is gone.

Based on the posts in the thread, I ordered a set. I've got some annoying resonance with the Legsport "Race" exhaust and if it helps get rid of that its worth a shot. I'll post an update with my opinion once I have the parts installed.

Decided to be proactive and order a set of these for when the exhaust mod happens. It's too inexpensive a thing to not try. Took a little over 2 weeks from ordering for them to ship, not too bad at all.

Really glad I stumbled on this thread. Just installed the 3" Perrin Resonated catback this weekend and noticed quite a jump in cabin vibration. Chalked it up to the blown cat in my OEM front pipe (unfortunate discovery when taking off the stock muffler and still need to address). Really confident this will help, but probably won't see it for at least a month.

My exhaust recording on outside.. Interior wise, it tuned out a lot of the unwanted frequency, resulting in a better cabin cruise... from time stamp 2:50 onwards, noise interior wise was the quietest at 3.5k rpm as it had the best cancellation ymmv though as mine is a full titanium catback Sent from my XQ-AS62 using Tapatalk |
