Logbook for Track Days

Hey guys,

I am just getting started in the 86Drive Challenge/86Cup and I am wondering if there are any sheets available to help log times, tire temps, weather, run group, etc. I have seen the pegasus racing book (but it's 15 dollars plus 21 in shipping) as well as the longacre tire temp, chassis setup, and laptime sheets, but is there one document that has them all in one centralized place? I like to be very organized and I want to be able to track my progress very thoroughly. What do you guys use?

I just use a notebook with my own shortcode so to say. For my track cars I use the club's official logbook in combination with my own.

I never felt like any of the premade forms or sheets had all of the things, or the few things, that I wanted to see.

I generally use a notebook in combination with my AIM Solo DL and back home transfer notes to my Excel sheet & other logs. Most of the stuff I have memorized in my head and check to see if everything is matching my expected values (tire temp, tire pressure, etc). Usually is so I don't have to bother much.

As far as sheets goes, I would make and print out my own if you want. Unlimited customization with whatever you want to keep track of. No way in hell am I gonna pay money for some paper sheets I can make on my own. Need to save that money for consumables :P

What are the most important things? Ambient temp, tire pressure, tire temp, suspension setup(ie. camber, caster, etc.), lap time...what else?

I'd love to see your excel sheet.

As far as suspension setup goes unless you have the budget to get it realigned & corner balanced to customize for each track you'll probably be running the same setup for multiple events. I set my suspension (camber, toe, etc) based on tire temps, my preferences, etc.

Tire pressure is something I play with throughout the day but generally I have a baseline I start off with for the 1st session and depending on other factors like weather, course conditions, my driving, I will change it.

It's nice to have all of those things noted of course so you can always refer to it later on or next time you come back to the track. I like to have driving notes as well such as things about the track (certain corners, different lines, etc).

My logs are pretty boring stuff honestly only good if you want to be slow like me

For me, it is shock settings and tire pressure primarily. Since those are what I am changing the most at the track/autocross event. I also make a note of the site, the site surface, and yes ambient temps. I'll also record the tire type and # of sessions or runs to keep track of heat cycles on tires (that is usually the night/day after). Sometimes I include the sway-bar and its settings but that kind of falls into below.

My alignment settings are not changing regularly so I don't note those in my book. I will make a note though if it was a first event on a new setup, so I know what to expect or look for.

My concern has primarly been tires; this is the sheet I worked up for them:

I had someone else taking and recording tire temps; otherwise, they would have been on this sheet, too.
