Whoa, that's a familiar sound. It's pretty cool that the steam clean made it go away. The problem with lugging isn't just low RPM, it's too much load at a low RPM. So long as your load is within safe levels you can cruise at w/e RPM is comfortable. So I'm not surprised the steam clean cleaned it up. The PCV is a common problem for carbon buildup, that and EGR.

It sounds like a growl or maybe a rumbling tummy.

Maybe your car is hungry?

27mpg, yea I'd say it's very hungry for my precious 4.30/gallon gas :P

Also seems to burn a bit of oil, the oil level dropped a little on the dipstick, but not much. Been driving about 500 miles, burned 1 mm off the dipstick. Got a 2.6 dollar quart of cheapo dino oil just in case it gets a little low.

I have no idea what the sound could be though...

Have you found where it's coming from?

Yea the issue is, the engine would groan at 25% load at 1200rpm, aka barely touching the throttle so that the idle air control isn't supplying all the air.
@Guff It was from the engine for sure. The engine is like 2 feet from my head remember?

I'm thinking it was knock caused by some deposits or something. Hope I didn't reduce my bearing life further...

i have made my decision! gonna go with the WRB BRZ Limited.

i was having a hard time deciding, but despite the increased cost, i figure the resale would be better (should i ever sell it) and i like that front end more. course, the "10 woofer, leather seats, HIDs, and navi don't effect my decision at all! lol

The woofer is an option, just FYI.
