The clockspring is the piece that carries all of the wires for all the steering wheel controls. It is usually a long flat ribbon that is wound several times around the inside of a plastic case like a spiral spring in a clock.

it also houses a very delicate sensor that tells the car in what position the steering wheel is in. if replaced you also need to calibrate it though techstream.

Hey guys, Im also in the process of upgrading my steering wheel and cluster. Im going to use the "old" clock spring. I will use the pedal shifter port to Bypass the issue of one missing port in the main connector. I already have a Pedal shifter connector for the moving side. Now Im in need of some Information and I hope some one can help me out:

-Im In need of 2018 model wiring Diagramm for the cluster and clock spring. Cant find any. I learned that cluster control Buttons are Pins 23,26,29 on the cluster and Pins 2,3,4 on the moving side Main connector of the 2018 steering wheel. But I wasnt able to find out how they are assigned to each other. As well I want to compare the assignment of the cluster Main connector to figure out some issues I have with my LS swap when using the facelift cluster instead of the old one. (MIL is flickering and fuel Level and consumption readings are not plausible)
-I already found out that the 2013 Model 10 pin connector and the 2018 model 12 pin connector are using different pins/crimps. So the depinned wires of the 2018 steering wheel cannot be put into the 10 pin connector. Does anybody know a source where the 2013' pins can be purchased? Also I need some additional pins for the fixed side of the clock spring and of course for the cluster Main connector.

Thanks in advance!

Hello all,

I have finished my steering wheel upgrade. I succesfully used the "old" Clockspring and also figured out a way to do this without using the shift pedal signal port. So this would also work for AT cars.

As well I found a good source for single terminals. They are also much cheaper then the repair cables which can be bought from the dealership. So just the harness of the remote Buttons need to get New pins to match the old 10pin connector und some more pins and cables to build two little additional harnesses for the radio controls and the cluster controls.

If somebody is interessted I can try to make a little how to. Here is a pic of the final result:

Maestro vs ASWC-1

Thanks for posting this. Quick question: Is there an advantage of the Maestro kit over the ASWC-1 kit that you'd originally considered?
Is there a reason you chose the Maestro over the ASWC-1?

Was able to re-pin the factory clock spring. Adding 5 wires to it. Running then my own wiring to the radio with a Maestro SW kit. Then programming the Maestro SW kit for the correct resistance on the wheel and including the illumination.

What was required to do this was the wheel and airbag with all the wiring and the Maestro SW kit.

So I own a 2015 BRZ and now have a 2017 Steering wheel with OEM buttons. Works like a champ!

Hello, I have time so I am attacking the site again.
first question, why do you have to change the airbag?
Why not submit the 2013 one
