Cruise Control with Aftermarket Steering Wheel **SOLUTION**
So I've read a few posts on here about how people don't want to lose their cruise control functionality with getting an aftermarket steering wheel. Or if you're like me, you just want the functionality of being able to switch maps on your EcuTek tune.
I'm about to retune the car since I'm done breaking in the rebuilt motor.. I was trying to think of a way to retain it when it dawned on me. I have no need for the TRAC/VSC buttons by the shifter. Especially since I have the @Beastronix module (which is an amazing piece of technology if you haven't tried it!) and he's been a HUGE help with all of his knowledge of the twin's wiring and electronics! My friend Paul and I decided to utilize the TRAC/VSC buttons as the cruise control buttons, and no one would even be able to tell. Simple and clean. We've both been quite busy but we have just now finding time to get this project started. I bought a spare cruise control stalk and a spare TRAC/VSC unit from an automatic FRS. Why automatic? Because it has an additional button/toggle for "SPORT" and "SNOW" mode. The only issue with having a MT FRS and using the AT unit is that it has two extra wires and pins inside the connector for the sport and snow modes. So right now the only challenge is finding the right pins to put into the connector. We plan to use the sport and snow modes as the +Res and -Set modes. The TRAC button will be used as the Cancel mode on the cruise control stalk and the VSC button will be used for the On mode for cruise control. We're hoping to get this done fairly soon (hopefully by the weekend or early next week). After we test it out and everything looks good, I'll probably find a way to make it look a little nicer with labels for cruise and some arrows pointing up and down and cancel lol but that's the last thing on my mind for this project. Let me know what you guys think or if yall have any suggestions to make things easier or simpler.

Attached is the design of my bracket (pdf).
It can simply be sandwiched between steering wheel and steering wheel adapter, doesn't crush any cables, doesn't affect any horn buttons and keeps the cruise control lever inline with the vertical axis. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...12#post2412512 |

Instead of a bracket, I made buttons and figured out the ohmage for all the resistors used to make my own chipset and put buttons on the steering column cover for cruise control. It looks a lot cleaner than the bracket that protrudes out like crazy.

Sorry, I've been so busy..
I actually got this done and figured out.. I did the same thing @spinning_Sushi did, but instead I used the trac/vsc buttons from an automatic FRS, since it has 4 momentary buttons. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgKLJZlznBY"]FR-S Trac/VSC Rewire Cruise Control Function - YouTube[/ame]

I have the Beastronix 86Nanny, so I had no need for my Trac/VSC buttons.

Old thread but sharing some details from my DIY attempt inspired by the thread / YouTube video.
I bought a used cruise control stalk from eBay, dismantled it, then took the multimeter to it. Resistance readings I got were: 240Ω, 390Ω, 910Ω I'm no electrical engineer, but learned what "current sensing" circuit is and how pressing each button and closing circuit results in different states based on resistance values (ON/OFF = ∞, RES + = 240Ω, SET - = 630Ω, CANCEL = 1530Ω or 1.53kΩ) - very neat-o List of supplies I used: - Buttons - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C3GQZQHH...roduct_details - Solderable breadboard - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09WZY8CFV...roduct_details - Screw terminal - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B088LVP6ML...roduct_details - 20gauge wire - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089D375K7...roduct_details - Resistor set - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B098BKR447...roduct_details The mess: I tapped into the car-side blue/white, blk/white wires located in the connector hidden under the steering column cover.
