Reliability is a different study, a longer term survey:

I guess I missed the survey. The cruise control is stone-hammer simple, I didn't get the touch-screen POS in the first place, and the last place I want a damn phone is in the car when I go to away from the f-ing thing. The only rattle I have is the snap on the passenger seatbelt retainer, and the interior is just fine for a sub-30K car. Then again, I knew what is was when I bought it.

It is what it is, and people who spend 20K to make it something it isn't are comical. Buy a better car from go if that's what you want.

People will always complain about something before they praise it. This type of survey is probably skewed. People that are happy with their car don't have much reason to say anything. People that are disappointed want to vent and will fill this stuff out with a passion.

Another funny thing about this survey is that a blown engine or a "my stereo doesn't understand my accent when I use the voice recognition" both count as a single problem with the same weighting. Unless you're willing to pay JD Power you have no idea if the brand has systemic catastrophic mechanical failures or just happens to cater to whiny neurotic people who hate the way their window switch feels.

Apparently if the automaker's pay them money they can get the full survey results, then if they pay them more they can advertise their JD Power awards...I imagine that either leads to JD Power tailoring the survey questions to match their paying customers and/or car manufacturers tailoring their cars to do well in the next survey (ultimate design by focus ground aimed at the lowest common denominator).

Either way, bleh.

In turn, that depreciates the value of all of our 1st year cars.

Of course, none of this attributes to the handling and actual performance of the car. You can still love the car, but you have to admit that it's not the best quality compared to its competitors.
A car that's won as many awards as this car has is hardly subpar. Car and Driver 10 best, USAA top pick, US News Ranking # 1 small size sports car. That's just to name few. Now that said, is it perfect? No, but I don't expect perfect for $25,000. Most of the complaints you have listed can be fixed and modded and done at a reasonable cost.

So believe me when I tell you that you haven't busted my bubble. I love the car.

And directly from J.D. Power:

"The majority of problems owners experience with their new vehicle in the first 90 days of ownership are design-related rather than manufacturing defects. These design problems are far less likely to be successfully resolved at the dealership than are defects, according to the study."

http://autos.jdpower.com/content/stu...dy-results.htm

So it appears two-thirds (couldn't find the raw data) of complaints were most likely about the BeSpoke head unit. That may be why Scion is currently offering the new 2014 head unit for half price (posted in another thread).
I agree.. Except you need to buy modules to make the new and improved radio do anything useful.. Then you spent $1200+ total.. Ripoff..

This. Consumer Reports > JD Power. I always respected Consumer Reports for their subscriber survey's concerning long term reliability. The only issue I have is the predicted reliability for the FR-S is above average. How can they predict the reliability on a first year car with a new engine?

Do people really buy this car for the interior? You add dynamat, you also add weight.

People who want a quiet non-rattley car should have bought a 3800lb+ german luxury car.....and then get the joy of dealing with the luxury car maintenance. I'll take the light weight rattley car, personally.

Be glad the frs/brz problems are very minor. Annoying cricket noise which will have a real solid fix just more time/patience, rattles here and there etc... Not very much or to stress about really ...

Just be glad it hasn't encountered problems like early model E46's (my prev platform vehicle. 325CI & M3). My god it was plagued w/ major catastrophic issues like the subframe tearing apart out from underneath you literally, VANOS issues, rod bearing issues the list goes on and on. Just consider ourselves lucky

I doubt the FR-S has much of an impact on this ranking anyway. The ratio of FR-Ses to xB's and tC's I see on the road is pretty low. The ranking is based upon all Scions, I would assume. And as stated, ours is pretty much a Subaru anyway.
