For those whose FRS/BRZ is their only vehicle

I am curious if there are other people out there on forums that this is their absolute only vehicle they will own and use.

I am awaiting mine after ordering, and curious about peoples' experiences having this car as their only ride.

90% of the time it works well enough. Just accept the fact that not everything will fit into the car, and you'll be ok.

I've ran into maybe 3 situations since I've bought the car where I couldn't fit something into it.

Other than that, it's comfortable enough for long drives, is fuel efficient, and works well as a DD

Well, 2 bicycles, 2 motorcycles, a skateboard, my nephew's razor scooter.
Get along well enough with only one 4 wheeler.
Brother in law has a chevy pickup for the awkward stuff.

Anyone have a pogo stick or unicycle?

Yeah, it works great for me. I have a wife and dog. No issues. My alpine skis fit but not well. It's not normally a real problem.

I'm too poor for a second vehicle (not really but can't find a beater that is fun to drive).

The FRS is my only car and its really practical. Having the backseats that fold down all the way does help, also having absolutely no responsibilities family wise is great.

Like the others, almost all the time it's perfectly fine for all my needs. Obviously I won't be able to buy a 65" tv and fit the box in my car, but I don't do that every day.

+1 I am in the same boat haha.

Pro tip: Don't modify it if its your only car or you will always be working on it like me hahaha

It's been my only car for over a year now, I've borrowed my dad's truck once since selling my truck, I used my truck maybe 3 times since buying my 86 (4 years ago), so about once per year I need more space than the 86 offers, and the gf can't drive stick so sometimes we roadtrip in an AT car, but aside from that it's been great.

If I needed 2 more doors it'd probably be a pain, but hopefully when the time comes for that I'll be able to afford something practical and fun. (Bimmer, CTS-V, maybe another truck, idk)

I had a beater truck like this, best $1k I've ever spent. With more torque than an 86 and less weight on the rear wheels it was just as easy to kick the back end out on a wet or gravely road. I thought it was fun to drive, but I have low standards.

My FRS has been my one and only car for 3 years and I think it's great. I understand it isn't the most practical vehicle but it has just enough cargo room and fuel efficiency for me to live with. I sometimes pick up a friend to go to an archery range and with the back seats folded down we can fit our 62" traditional bows with our quivers as well. There was also room for a guitar and amp as well. I barely ever have to carpool anyone and I have put people in the backseats before just once or twice since I've owned the vehicle and they were no taller than 5'6". The backseat is uncomfortable and I don't recommend this if you regularly carpool. Most of my friends have cars at this point so it all works out anyway.

Other than that I'm enjoying the drivability of this car every day with the occasional autocross. I also keep a set of winter tires for when winter rolls around. This car is actually very capable in the snow provided that you have winter tires. I was able to get to where I need to be and even passing some AWD SUVs on the way. The only thing I don't like is when I'm stuck in stop and go traffic and that's a little annoying with a stick shift. So to reiterate the FRS/BRZ can definitely work well as an only vehicle if you can make do with the limited passenger space and I highly recommend winter tires.

It's not my absolute only vehicle, but it is my daily driven car. Obviously it can't do everything perfectly all the time, but it does do a bit of everything. I have no problems doing my grocery shopping (disclosure: single male, not shopping for an entire family), can toss plenty of stuff in the trunk, and seat dropping is easy enough to allow you to fit larger things. The cup holding situation isn't the greatest, but it can be done, and the bottle holders in the doors are decent. We get snow here, so snow tires during the winter are pretty much a must if you have to drive in snow or freezing temps. It is a great and entertaining drive on a daily basis all year round.

Don't be worried about it as your only vehicle if you don't have some odd need for more cargo space. I'm not unrealistic about what the car can fit and what it can do, so I enjoy it very much and get plenty of use out of it.

I love my car and for my normal needs it is perfect but I don't think I could manage with it as the only car. My wife has an RVR )Outlander Sport to you USA guys) and there are many instances where I have to use that because mine will just not cut it. There is not a hope in hell that you are going golfing with 4 people and taking just my car.

I guess it depends on your stage in life. I managed with the 86 as my only car for almost 3 years - the backseat folding down flat is a big help and pretty much makes this car a two seater with EXCELLENT trunk space.

Only since getting married in the middle of last year did I get a 2nd car for the wife to use (Mini Cooper), but we will most definitely need a larger vehicle once we decide to have kids.

If you are young and with no kids, there should be no issue with having an FR-S/BRZ/86 as your only car until circumstances change

My only car is the 86 and it's fine for a single person.
