Ej Swap
So we know this swap is possible but has anyone found any information on how it is actually done?
I.e do you need a swap kit? or engine and tranny enough? can you use the transmission currently in frs/brz with the ej engine? Does it direct bolt on? I haven't found any information on these with search and such was wondering if anyone else had better luck |

I wonder if anyone considering downgrading from an FA20 to an EJ series motor has looked at what each has been capable of doing both in stock form and built form. FA20 seems like leaps a bounds an improvement over the EJ motors design.

When you go into production with these, can i choose a stain instead of dip? A nice cherry wood finish gives me the chub. |

I can get a jdm ej205 engine for cheap all day. They're everywhere these days. A swap for this motor and I'm already pushing what others are getting with their expensive turbo kits on the FA20. Now, I'm far from knocking the FA20 motor. But the high compression turns me off with any sort of forced induction. Whereas the EJ205 was built from factory to handle boost. That's a HUGE advantage! The center of gravity and such will be closely retained; unlike a 2jz or lsx swap. The EJ motors, although old tech, are still very potent. In the end, power is power is power. Doesn't matter what lies under your hood. It's how it gets there. HOWEVER, the major underlying factor for this swap is trying to not upset the car's delicate balance. EJ motors can handle like 350whp at medium boost on pumpgas all day and do it for years. Try that with your FA!

You need to read more. More compression means we need less boost to make power. Did you know that a turbocharger increases the CR of an engine under load? This isnt the fucking 1970's anymore. We have this thing called technology. |

FA20 motor can make from 300-350 on pump gas at around 12 psi and not fall off at higher RPM's. Powerband between both motors are quite different so I can see if you like that instant hit of torque how you would prefer an EJ motor. They have also proven to not be too reliable aside from adding a downpipe, intake and tune (on stock form). By contrast, slap a turbo kit on the FA20, put E85 on it and you see 400 + whp. This motor is still new and we don't know how it will hold up long term, but so far it seems to be doing ok considering it starts at 170 whp. Lastly, the 12.5:1 compression ratio is the secret of this car. The CR coupled with the Direct Injection allows it to have a room to play that has not been seen much. Everyone's jaw drops when they hear you say "12.5 CR motor holding 20 psi of boost". It sounds crazy, but it is happening.
