Maybe because your tools are still greasy from the old days -

Used to do both. Tune up was make sure it was running right as per stock settings. Tune was squeezing every ounce of power with settings that no sane person would run stock.
Much the same as now only manually instead of electronic.

When it worked it worked really well. Far better at high revs.

We had duel point distributors also for our chevys. I had one in my 454. Also had one in a Buick 455.

I was given my grandmother's Dart that went nowhere in the rain. My dad tried for months to fix it and told me to just drive with two feet. I don't remember where I learned about the ballast but he was actually annoyed that I fixed it for under $2.00. A month after I fixed it he sold it without telling me.

I admit my ignorance. I've never dealt with dual points. Reading up on it for the first time tonight, all kidding aside, respect for mastering the technique.

When I bought the R/T it had the six pack on it but still had the single points distributor from the stock four barrel. It would just bog down at anything over 4,000 rpm. Traded something that I don’t remember for the dual point and that fixed my issue. Well after a long learning curve it did. I had no idea that both sets of points shouldn’t be set exactly the same and since there was no internet to ask I had to find somebody that did know to show me what I was doing wrong. Once I knew it wasn’t hard to maintain.

Yep. Many of the big blocks had them as an option.
For some weird and unexplained reason dodge used them on some of the slant sixes as well.
