Might have to tell my wife that my 86 is just my weekend car and I'm getting a Corolla for a more economical daily commute.

Yea, my 20something self would have loved one of these, but I'm afraid I've outgrown (out aged?) it. Still, for those that want one, this looks like its going to be a great hot hatch choice.

The only thing I don’t agree with on the car is that exhaust. But I’m sure TOM’S will come out with their quad exhaust for it. So that’s all I’d wanna improve.

It's awesome and I love it. Better than expected (thank goodness it's not FWD and that it has front and rear LSDs).

Hoping for under $40k and under 3200 lbs but we'll see. Posted my thoughts here:

Make mine white with white Speedline wheels (actually probably Braids again).

Please don't call this a Toyota STI...Toyota has plenty of their own awd turbocharged rally heritage to pull from!

yeah they got pretty close like with the Supra, LS, IS, gr86, Landcruiser etc. i wouldnt be shocked if they had an employees that got a sneak peak and then went back to the office and render up those drawings from memory.

The cladding does not appeal to many but it is the only defining feature now.
Only comparing in the sense that BMW would never do something silly like putting black plastic fenders on their sedans. (Honestly, is there any brand out there at all that puts plastic fenders on their sporty sedans?)

And yes, I somewhat agree that the WRX has never been spectacular, but if the "only defining feature" of a new model is some SUV-ish plastic, then clearly someone somewhere dropped the ball.

Yep!
I find it completely ironic (in the real use of the term) that they took the new BRZ and WRX/Subarued the living crap out of it with gaping vents, aggressive bumper and grill, fender vents and rear end. Then they did the total opposite with the WRX when they took a traditional Subaru design and downgraded it to a cookie cutter sedan. Then somebody said "You know what would make it a Subaru again? CLADDING AROUND THE WHEEL WELLS!"

What the hell is going on with the center exhaust? Hopefully that's easy to ditch.

So glad this has 18" wheels and not something oversized and stupid (cough cough, Civic Type R).

You sort of answered your own question. It is the in thing I guess.

Well I'm not sure. Honda claims that theirs is a clever way to control the sound volume of the exhaust. I believe the 3rd middle exit is a sort of resonator device. On the Toyota you have conventional (looking) pipes exiting on the opposing sides. And then a completely different shaped one exiting in the middle. It's possible to be serving a similar function, though it appears to be far apart from the other exits, and I know one complaint owners have about the CTR is the exhaust.

Also its a hot hatch, that's where a trailer hitch goes! (lol)

funny that they chose a very subaru-esque "C" shape with the drls, like others said it is as though they are building their own sti. with this coming out could this have indirectly caused subaru to not go forth with a wrx sti? either toyota told them to stay away from the segment or they figured it would be too strong of a competitor? quite a coincidence

b) The WRX is supposed to be a sport-sedan, not a "sports utility sedan". When's the last time you saw BMW (arguably the world's leader in sporty sedans) put black plastic over-fenders on any of their M cars? Or anyone else for that matter?

c) Yes, it may be technically better... fine. I still won't buy a car that looks like a Tonka toy.

It's not a sports utility vehicle. It simply has an styling detail people don't like. I dont see a lift kit. Can look past that because the changes made are driver focused and the fenders are an easy fix imo.
