To everyone who is having a hard time snapping the sidemarker back into place, there is a thread here. Maybe the OP can put it on the first post?

I got a pair of vice grips and a small cloth to squeeze them together.

Put a small cloth between one jaw of your vice grip and the sidemarker so you don't scratch it. Make sure the jaw is flat against the sidemarker so when you squeeze the pressure is spread out. If you put too much pressure using only the tip of the jaw then the side marker can crack.

The other jaw of your vice grip should be on the metal tab. Squeeze the two together until you hear a loud click.

@F1point4 thank you very much for this guide and pics! I was able to do this in about 15 minutes with the help of my roommate. (I pushed in on the clip while he pulled on the sidemarker, hehe.)

When mine went all the way in the foam should no longer be visible. That doesn't look to be in. Rather then slowly starting to push it in I had it all lined up and kinda banged on it with my fist for a quick impact and mine snapped right in.

This worked for me, except I wedged a tiny screwdriver into the clip from the bottom (once it was through the bracket on the bumper) and shoved it towards the engine.

Quick pic for reference (not my pic):

As others have said, you'll feel it click into place. Nothing else I tried work, including brute force, quick rabbit punches, roundhouse kicks, etc.

If you want a genuine OEM part (perfect fit, no leaks), I used this vendor and was happy.

Really quite frustrating. The A-clip is a huge problem. It was loose on driver's side and stayed in when the side marker released. Then after 30 minutes trying to get the Helix side markers flush I learned they may not have the correct gap from the manufacturer!

My passenger side came out easily and went in flawlessly. I still have to redo my driver's side as it the A-clip is broken.

Just did mine with the helix dark smoke side markers and amber LED's underneath. It was pretty easy thanks to this guide. Honestly though, after doing my driver side with the wheel turned the way it is in the picture (and hardly being able to get an angle to see what I was looking at) I tried it on the passenger side without adjusting and it was so much easier. So, in other words, turn the wheel the other way and you can get a better line of sight with your head further back by the rear side of the wheel. So turn the wheel in when taking the phillips clips/scew things out, and then turn the wheel the other way to pry the marker off. Worked like a charm.

Also instead of using a philips screw driver, use a philips bit. You need almost no pressure so it is easier to just use a tiny little bit in your fingers when twisting the liner screw clips off.

Wondering if this is a good place to ask, since you’ve looked at this so carefully…

I lost my stock passenger side marker (amber lens, 2017 BRZ) when someone left me a nice scratch and a loose side marker as a present, and it was not as secure as I thought. Must have popped loose on the next drive.

Does that mean I need to order clips as well as a side marker? And does anyone who has replaced their side marker have a stock one they’d be willing to send me?

Typically side markers will come with them. Otherwise you can order them separate. https://86speed.com/sidemarker-clips-pair
