Anyone test drove an AT?
My wife doesn't drive manual so any hope of getting a FR-S would end up an Auto-Tranny. Was wondering if anyone had test driven one and had feedback on the paddle shifters, acceleration, etc. Thanks!!

The AT is FABULOUS. I seriously HATE automatics, but the AT in the FRS I drove is amazing.
The way it shifts feels great. It's almost like being in a manual - doesn't feel as slushy while it moves through the gears, more like it lets off the gas (drive-by-wire throttle) to make the shift. The paddle shifters let you change gears while in D, but I almost exclusively drove in manual mode. Didn't feel comfortable using the paddle shifters while turning since they turn with the wheel - I ended up only using the shifter. Still nice to have when on the freeway (or coming from an on-ramp) and you want to drop a gear or two. Can't compare to MT since I haven't driven one yet. Won't be buying mine (MT) for a while. |

What i've realized with my AT in Manual mode is you need to keep both hands on the wheel for orientation reasons, when your turning with both hands you do a hand over hand technique, if your hands are at 9 & 3 you will fall in the groove. It has been a transition for me from my 5speed WRX

There have been a few threads on this. Bottom line, I fairly certain you won't regret it.

It is awesome. I got my wife to test drive an AT at the Toyota dealership when we were shopping for a new car for here and she loved it. So we left the dealership with one.

It's amazing. Even in auto sport mode it is damn good. Doesn't take the joy out of driving like other ATs do at all
