2020 BRZ tS Fluid Question

Hey all,

I was wondering, given the car is a 2020 BRZ tS MT - do you think the stock transmission and differential (LSD) fluid is of better stock than the historical guidance on MT13-17 stock fluids on the forum?

I was looking at motul 300 for trans and 300LS for the differential after break-in but the stock fluid in a tS cant be that bad can it?

So far my only mods have been drop in filter (Green Filter) and MTEC clutch spring.

Thanks

I reckon the OEM fluid is just fine for average driving.

I just got a TS myself and will be keeping the stock fluid until the first maintenance. I will then be upgrading to Amsoil. Motul is not readily available here in Canada. The stock fluid is fine for some time.

It's fine.

If you're changing there are some fluids people prefer over OEM. But oem is fine.

Agreed. I will however do the first oil change right at 1,000 miles next week on my 2020 tS.

Last I checked, the LSD in all of these cars is Torsen. Meaning there are no clutch discs in there to warrant LSD Gear Oil. Most all 75w90 oil will be just fine.

Understood, sounds good.

I just did the Clutch Pedal Spring swap out for the MT and holy hell did it make a massive difference. I can actually feel the clutch grab point now lol... I didnt go with the MTEC because $30 for a single spring is extortion. So I ordered a pack of equivalents that were $10 and came with 6 springs...just in case haha.

If anyone is interested, I got the idea from a set of youtube comments but ultimately got the 49 lb/in one below. The MTEC 63 Lbs/inch was above what a mechanical engineer said 30-50lb/in range on the spring is optimal. The stock spring is 150lb/in....so you can see why if your shifting (especially idle 1st gear clutch grab and 2nd gear jerk).

49 lb/in 2": https://www.mcmaster.com/9657K405/

If you want the generic MTEC equivalent though; 57lb/in 1.75": https://www.mcmaster.com/9657K379/

Oem gear fluid looked perfect at 40k. So any gear oil brand 75w90 will work.

Curious if anyone swapping manual trans fluid with Subaru OEM is able to find GL3/4 spec fluid? Subaru only sells GL5?

Go to Toyota and ask for LV 75W transmission line for an FRS/86. It's not cheap, but it's what Toyota recommends, and it's GL4, not 5. And it's a Toyota transmission, after all...
