I'd buy a second gen for the power without having to run E85 if my car wasn't so far removed from stock i'd be buying new body panels to put it back and undoing the prep I did for a half cage. I could care less for the looks of something I sit in. I still wished the interior didn't rattle and the parking brake boot wouldn't pop off all the time even though it's primarily my track day toy.

Come on buying a Subaru or Toyota for refinement makes no sense. The guy said he was embarrassed. Don’t see why. I like both Gens. It’s not worth it to trade for me. But If I was in the market I would get the Gen2 in a heartbeat. Only thing I would miss is the steering from my Gen1. I am modded with header and tune and love revving out the car. My 04 WRX wagon will destroy both gens but honestly it’s not as much fun.

He didn't say he bought it for the refinement. He says he likes the refinement. Big difference. Didn't seem to keep him from owning two first gens before

I am driving my car for the next few weeks for the fuel mileage vs. my truck. Should I get rid of it and buy a Prius then?

When did this change in the first Gens? My 2020 had buttons on the steering wheel. I only use it to access voice recognition but it is really nice for that.

Agree. I did this mod but still not as good as the Gen 1 aftermarket wheel I put in or the OEM. The grips at 3 and 9 were better on gen 1. And higher up.

We were fortunate in the initial specs in australia. We got all the nice bits on the top 86 spec (called the 86 GTS).

This was what my cockpit looked like (2012), which I think still holds up pretty nicely from a looks point, if just a touch less modern and sleek compared to my new one.

Note frameless mirror, satnav, dual zone climate, all pretty stylish.

seats feel the same to me jumping out of the Hakone into the GR86, aside from the headrest which is like a rock in the latter for some reason lol.

Hard to tell, the seats have just always been so sensational.

One thing I will say is that I have probably put on a few kg since 2012, and the new car feels like they have made an allowance for that

The problem with these threads is the OP was expressing his opinion based on the car he owns vs. a test drive and just like the joyful ride thread it turns very quickly to a shit show. Not so long ago the threads were centered around buying or waiting and now that it's here it's a d**k swinging contest. Only two of you have owned both, two veterans being as neutral as possible, and the rest joined the forum no more than 6 months ago and your opinions are totally one sided.

You don’t count so well. I count at least 8 on this thread alone that have owned both - me, Blighty, LiquidSnake, PBR, Yoshoobaroo, DylanJZA, Dragoontwo, and Drift86.

Btw, you do realize that this is a Gen1/Gen2 comparison posted by a Gen1 owner on a Gen2 thread basically saying that the Gen2 is not “all that” don’t you?

FYI - this isn’t the first or last one of these threads. I suggest if you don’t like/can’t handle what is said in them that you take your own suggestion - go outside, take a drive, have fun and enjoy that beautiful day.

One important thing to remember when test driving new cars, and comparing them to an older version, is that the alignment on the new one is likely garbage. And alignment makes a big difference in feel. One of the first things I did when I got my '22 was set an appointment for an alignment at a local chassis shop, and the car was noticeably twitchier on the way home.

I had a similar experience test driving an ND2 Miata, came away uninspired, then immediately drove a friend's ND1 with a proper alignment and 200 tw tires. His car was exactly what I was expecting the ND2 to feel like.
