Interesting article on manufacturers ability to remove 3D printed parts from printable sites. This article hints at a way to re-word parts titles as a product FOR the car. Not as a Honda product. Example: "Honda Pilot windshield washer cap" can be removed but "Windshield washer cap for Honda Pilot" doesn't need to be.

So looking at it more precisely the ovals of the two emblems are close, but not exact. Obviously it depends on the car, but just using the examples I pull off the Internet a Toyota logo that's 98mm wide is 65mm tall.

If I resize just the oval of the Star Trek logo so that it's also 98mm wide it comes to 69.7mm tall.

A few millimeters of vertical squish on the oval part of the emblem isn't noticeable. I "re-cut" the A shape of the emblem into the oval (easier to print in two pieces for painting, vinyl wrap, whatever) so that it will still fit with the slight modification to the shape of the oval.

So it's a decent starting point for printing one. I'd want to take a look at how the emblem mounts to the hood, and measure the exact depth of the impression it fits into on the car to ensure the "A" clears that.

It would probably be wise to print in PETG or ABS for better heat tolerance, and then I'd recommend some filler/sanding to eliminate the layer lines and then probably a gold/silver metallic vinyl wrap to really make it look nice.

https://www.tinkercad.com/things/lyW...nx6RV44z8SAuuo
(red part is an exterior dimension of the Toyota emblem, blue part is the shape of the Toyota emblem.) Everything may need sized up/down to fit our cars, I haven't measured the emblem on my car yet.

I figure there's probably holes in the car that the emblem fits through - if so a simple solution could be bolts running up through them into the emblem - ideally into the "A" that locks everything in place.

Original gauge layout from Rzrs, printed in ASA and wrapped in 3M 1080 MX12 Matrix Black vinyl to give it an OEM-ish textured plastic appearance.

I agree! Ive been waiting forever for someone to finally design a piece to go here and glad Rzrs was able to do it! Its much better than an empty cubby that doesnt fit anything. I also ordered some of the silver MCE AC control pieces to match the gauge rings as well.

Could ask @ pete39sp on Instagram, he has made quite a few custom emblems for this platform.

Yeah its challenging to make that area look good compared to the more modern buttons on the dual-climate version.

I went with the knurled knobs and wrapped the plastic area in alcantara a few years ago

Anyone make brake ducts as replacements for the fog lights on the FRS/gt86? Not the outer bezel around the blinker, but as a fog light replacement

It's a fairly large piece, so making it as a monolithic print would probably require a large format printer. It could be done as two-parts joined together, probably.

First up I'd want to be sure what's behind that part of the car - if you put in a vent but there's nowhere for the air to go it's just for looks. Further, if the air does go toward the brakes where does it go from there? If you're ducting air from the front of the car to, ultimately, the bottom of the car that's not ideal.

Second, we'd need to get the original part scanned into 3D. It would be *fairly* simple from there to convert it so that the outer dimensions match but the inner working is converted to a duct.

I already have ducting I was running to my grill opening. That is how occupied with an air water intercooler so I plan to use the fog light openings. I already know how/what to design. I was just hoping someone else had already done it, thereby saving me the trouble

A little update how the rings look with the gauges. Im not usually a huge fan of chrome/silver but I like how it ties in the gauges with the OEM silver trim pieces. Overall a very OEM+ look

Nice they look like they all match and came from the factory that way.

Also sorry if this thread got hihacked about metal rings. Keep the 3d Printing stuff coming

Okay, I'm working on something ridiculous.

I have a 3D printed and completely boring (orange teardrop) shift knob that fits on the car. Due to my wife rolling her eyes when I floated the idea of a Mad Max style femur shift knob I thought to myself, "sure, but if I could quickly switch them out she couldn't really complain, right?" (Orange knob is just a testbed for developing new ideas and deciding how much weight is good.)

So now I'm shifting gears (pun intended) to design a quick-disconnect shift knob. It'll have to balance being quick/easy to switch with being dangerously easy to remove unintentionally while driving. I have a few ideas for how to do that but I'm open to more. The basic concept is a sleeve adapter that goes onto the shifter rod and and mates to the knob as a two-part solution. One sleeve, multiple knobs. Either a slide lock or a twist lock for quick-connect goodness.

The next thing I'd throw out there for ideas is the knob itself. Wild stuff that you wouldn't necessarily want to drive around with, but would be fun to pop on/off now and then. Boring stuff. Whatever.

Aforementioned Femur knob, lightsaber hilt, and Excalibur-type sword-in-the-console are on my list already.

plastic cap for 17+ OEM spoiler

Does anyone here know how to/ have access to 3d-print one of these? It is the little plastic cap from the oem 2017+ low profile spoiler. One of mine flew off on the freeway and is unrecoverable. Subaru doesn't have just that part, they want to replace the whole wing for $500+, of course. Let me know! see pictures attached.
