Do your transmission and diff fluid swap at the same time. Many vendors have a 'kit' that includes new washers and fluid. Last one cost me $80 for everything and it can be done on a driveway with jack stands and a floor jack. (And a few wrenches obviously. )

This is a common “flaw” with Subaru. It is just a rough gearbox. If you know how to rev match your gears you will find everything will be somewhat smoother. These cars really can get your anxiety going with all the loud winding and clucky noises they produce but it’s just how they are. I don’t think Subaru and Toyota aim for the comfort side of things when it comes to these cars. They are really just a toy track car and perfect to learn in. I don’t pretend to know anything about cars but I feel like this is accurate. This is not factual just my opinion just like so many of these replies are.

Motul likes to be warm. Even PNW Willamette Valley rainy winters just above freezing make this transmission grumpy in the morning with it.

@Danzo86 bit of a necro bump, seeing as its from 6 years ago.
Put in the whiteline "positive shift kit" and follow up with the "positive traction kit" and your shifts will be much better. The stock transmission mount is soft, easy enough that you can move it with your pinky, and causes deflection in the drivetrain, especially after being driven hard for 100,000 miles. |
