Track Night just added two more tracks for this year! The road courses at Charlotte Motor Speedway and Gateway Motorsports Park (St. Louis).

These are fun, casual open track events! I went to 3 of them last year at High Plains Raceway (in my e36 BMW).

Probably take my BRZ to at least 1 this year.

Signed up for June 9th at PIR. I bought a helmet at the same time as the price was good, but they are having issues keeping them in stock. Should have it in time for the track, though.

How was the driving in previous events? Any idiots out there?

As with everything, there will be idiots out there. Just remember to point them out to the SCCA reps who are running the event. They seem pretty good in dealing with them.

Also depending on the track, it could be a little crowded. They seem to run more cars per group than what some other events do. I think this is to keep the costs in check. But I have run them where I get in a nice bubble with no cars around for most of the session. But in other sessions, I am in traffic the whole time.

I can only speak for ours, but the events are pretty casual. There are always people that think it is a race and make dumb decisions. And like any open track day, cars that are fast on the straights but slow in the turns, can make it annoying for the better handling cars.

Just go out and have fun, if it gets crowed around you pull off into pit lane and head back out. This will give you some space...that's what I do anyways.

Same at the one at Thunderhill, at least in beginner. Each session got us a bit more spread out to where it was a good time by the last session (not to say the others werent but just had more traffic). I plan to attend another in the next group up later on.

Using the hot pits like suggested above usually helps.
