Well I just called roadside again and they are sending me a new tow from a different company right now so hopefully I can get it to the dealer in time so they can hear the noise.

Anyways, on-topic.

If you think bearing is spun, do not, again DO NOT restart it again. For spun bearing, it won't bring up CEL. A lot ppl make a mistake by restarting the engine and make it worse. When bearing is spun and restarting the engine can cause valves to bend or worse, bend the piston rods.
and then... TOTALED!!!!

Regardless of it being covered under warranty or not, You're still out a car you just bought for a month or so which shouldn't happen

To the OP, I am so sorry about your engine. I hope that they get you back on the road again soon.

It is just the reality with cars; a small percentage will have issues regardless of manufacturer. I have been Turbo'd on the stock internals for 8,000 miles and have no issues so it isn't normal from my perspective.

I hope that they resolve your situation soon so that you can get back on the road.

I'm not letting it get me discouraged. I like the car and as long as everything is fixed under warranty I'm not going to be upset about it. I have another car to drive in the meantime.

The car is at the dealer now so it's just a waiting game now.

So, my thought is that the over filled oil is the culprit... assuming it is over filled enough for the crank to whip it into a foam, eventually reducing lubrication leading to the wear that causes the knock. Not sure though if the oil will de-foam after sitting for 45 minutes or so...

You did say 3/4" over the full mark right? Get photo proof it is over filled that much before you even think about draining the oil. And also make sure no one other than the dealer starts the engine again... don't want to give them any reason to blame you for the damage.

I mentioned the overfill to the dealer (not the same one that did the oil change,) and showed them a picture of the dipstick.

Whips oil into foam then the oil pump gears cant pump the oil sounds plausible. Just hope they don't drain it and say there you go its good... The damage is done to the entire motor then not just bearings......I would love to send in a oil sample for analysis to see how much bearing and metal material is floating around in it. I don't know if only a quart would do that, I do know the oil level is higher than the pan when properly filled though.

good luck, stick to your guns on a engine replacement
