More Steering wheel controls

Hi

For the possessor of the mk2 86 with steering wheel controls.

I wondering if we can add more controls.

I have no "call controls" like the BRZ or voice command.

Someone have disassemble the steering wheel and find somes unused wires ?

People have looked at this and it is not possible. You would need to change much of the steering wheel mechanisms and run all new wires.

What about AC controls, and seat adjustment controls, and high/low fog lights, also need blinkers on the wheel, and wiper controls, can't forget stability controls, and also need the gas cap release button on the steering wheel. I think we need every button in the cabin on the wheel.

Of course you could but it would be extremely expensive.

Anything can be done if you throw enough money at it. You would need at least the BRZ buttons, steering clock spring, wiring harness (may be there already), and head unit. In North America you would be talking someplace around $3,000 to $4,000 for the conversion if using genuine parts. Is not having to reach a few inches to the right to push a button on the head unit worth that much to you?

You forgot about the auto coffee peculator button, I need my coffee during my commute. Also, a facebook dash cam live feed button to show all the wannabuys looking at your twin.

UPDATE:

Jussy Just reread this and realized my attempt at humor could be conceived as belittling your original post. Sorry was not my intent, I got by tickled DandoX response and was trying to add some humor my boring Friday afternoon.

I have a 2013 with the BeSpoke touch screen. I was looking at the pinout the other day and noticed some pins for wheel controls. SW1 and SW2. Each button identifies itself based on the voltage it applies to these pins. So each pin can handle 4 buttons. I don't know about the other head units but at least on mine the OEM headunit could be wired up to some buttons. You would just need to do all the wiring and build a circuit to convert the button presses to various voltage levels that are sent to SW1 and SW2.

Running wires for a wheel that rotates all the time isn't a simple task though. If the wires aren't already in the column then I wouldn't even want to mess with it.

You would have to swap out the clock spring to a 2017 and above version that also added the wires for stereo controls alongside the horn and air bag wires. Probably going to be pretty expensive unless you get lucky and can source them cheap from someone parting one out or find a wrecked one at a pick n pull with steering column intact.

I switched the wheel remotes of my 86 with the one from BRZ and they work with aftermarket radio. If you want I have a 2018 version for sale in EU.
