First of all, they got the order slightly wrong. Which they apologized for, but it was no big deal and I accepted their apology.

But then they added a $7000 market adjustment, which I thought was pretty unscrupulous given that I had already put a deposit down and that we had already agreed on the price months ago. Needless to say, I didn't buy a car today.

If they want to add a markup on a showroom car, that's up to them. But to accept my order, have me wait months, and then surprise me as I was taking delivery, that's pretty ugly. Diablo Subaru of Walnut Creek. Fully deserving of the phrase "stealership".

“Breach of Contract”

Have your lawyer send them a letter

Then make then deduct your legal fees from purchase price.

as i told the new guy the other day at work "if we've got to fight with a customer, we've already lost."

as much as most people won't want to hear, these cars aren't unique, or special, or different. they're mass produced in a factory, among thousands of others that are going to be just like it.

but the buying experience is where we as the consumer can make a stand to vote with our wallets. if the dealer is being shitty, walk away. there's going to be a few thousand other vehicles made for the year distributed to hundreds of dealers across the states that are going to be just as hungry for one's business.

if they can't lead with enough respect to the buyer, move on.

used cars however, are an entirely different story.

This was exactly my thoughts on this. When I have ordered cars in advance, there is a $ amount on the bottom of paperwork for the car price. To me, that's pretty official and signed/legal.

Lol I was given an 8k markup from this same dealer shortage or not, I'd start looking into other cars at that price point

I have a signed order there at MSRP; hoping it sticks when car arrives in a month or two.

I wouldn't even bother with that.

Why would you (not you specifically just anyone in general) want to do business with a dealer that shady? It's not like any service/warranty action going forward is going to be pleasant either.
