HID suggestions for headlights / fog lights
Hey everyone,
New here and first post. Purchased my first brand new car 1/10/15 and of course it had to be the 2015 FR-S with fog lights. I did some research locally and the shops i've been to for HID's + installation were way over priced. I figured I'd do it myself. I was considering 6k HID's for the headlights and 3k HID's for the fogs. Does anyone have any suggestions on which HID's to check out? All opinions would be appreciated! Thanks. |

Check out this website for your HID. Diode Dynamics is very helpful and they do post in this forum. |

I suggest going to "the retrofit source". It cost a little bit more but their HID are more reliable than several companies that I've bought from. I'm about to replace my fog light with their LED Version.

Thanks so far guys! Side question. Will the factory Fog light be capable of sustaining the HID heat? |

Not sure since I don't have fog lights yet. I should have gotten the stock fog lights when I bought the car. But at the time I didn't wanna spend $490.00 for the fog lights. I'm sure other members will reply to your question.

One thing I wish I knew when I purchased hids are that 55w bulbs/ballasts will bleach out the color compared to a 35w set. 6000k 55w = about 5000k 35w.

55w HID kits are not recommended because they get quite hot and the improvement over 35w HID kits is minimal. Factory foglights (glass lens) will hold up the heat generated by HID bulbs.
We recommend 35w HID kits for anyone who is shopping for a plug-and-play HID kit for their FR-S. Our EuroR V3 HID System has been quite popular (3 year replacement warranty) and you won't have to worry about having to keep replacing HID bulbs and ballasts. Many low-end HID kits tend to fail prematurely and replacement costs add up pretty quickly. |

I've had HID Powerhouse's 6000K 35W HID's. They were nice, but replacing the bulb alone was not the way to go. I swapped them out for the Retrofit Source complete kit (projectors, bulbs, ballast). There is a huge difference between the stock halogen projectors and proper HID projectors. I haven't had any issues with anything I've received from @KI_ZN6 and would also recommend their products.
My point is; swap your projectors too, not just the bulbs.

The Retrofit Source has a perfect kit for us wanting to upgrade to HIDs in the headlights properly, since the stock projectors are not designed for HID bulbs: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/com...-frs-2012.html
For your fog lights, a lot of people will just throw in an HID bulb and be done with it. Keep in mind though HIDs are NOT desgned for glare housings that use halogen bulbs (heat won't be an issus with the glass, just plastic replacement covers are). Since HIDs are significantly brighter/more powerful, the glare to oncoming traffic can be uncomfortable if the light isn't directed properly, hence why projector lenses are used for HID/Xenon bulbs. Up to you, personally I'm going to be grabbing a cheap set of low beam projectors and retro-ing them into the fog housings... Later on when my wallet isn't crying of course. Haha

I have personally dealt with all of the following, but there are many others that carry great products and have great customer service. You should be able to call any of them if you have specific product questions.
HID Powerhouse The Retrofit Source Precision LED's Diode Dynamics (no personal, but another recommendation)
