So, they should call it a 300ZX then if it’s a 3l turbo...

I like the idea of a 400ZX better than 400Z but has to have those 300ZX taillights and not some ugly Vovle pillar things...

My understanding is that every Z up until now has been named by the engine displacement. The 240Z was a 2.4L. The 260 had a 2.6l, 280 had a 2.8l, 300 had a 3.0l. The 350 had a 3.5l and the 370 bumped that up to a 3.7l engine. I think going back to a 3.0L bootsed is a great idea, (as a former 300ZX owner, I feel like that was the sweet spot), but it does present a challenge for the name...

Just like Mercedes, I kind of like that though. You can tell what you are up against just by the badging.

I don't see what's so challenging about using the 300ZX name again. It's not like the latest Supra is called Supra V5 or something, haha.

The 300ZX name represents to many the peak of Nissan's sportscar through it's lineage (at least in "modern" times). To reuse the name again would be good for making a connection to that vehicle. AND it's accurate with their number usage. 2 birds with 1 stone.

But marketing morons rule the naming departments these days so we're gonna be SOL on this front.

When car companies are doing well they conservatively keep the same name. When they are desperate they try to make it look like a brand new remake.

Yeah, I think the X was supposed to be for luxury or something like that. The 300s were a bit of a departure from the pure driver focus of previous models, and the curb weight reflected it.

It’s only a challenge because some consumers are too dumb to realise displacement isn’t power, and a new ‘300Z’ (no X required really) twin turbo is not a downgrade from a NA 370Z. If consumers were less numbers obsessed and appreciated that model numbers don’t have to keep increasing to signify progress, 300Z would be the perfect name and would maintain the Z naming tradition.

Chrysler has been building 300's for 70 years or so?
Guess that makes them unimaginative or summat.

Ha!

Colt 45 all day!

So if the next gen Z came out with a 2.0T and 3.0TT motors then should they call them each the 200Z and 300Z, respectively, like Nissan did when they made a few 200Zs on multiple generations? I’m fine with whatever, but that naming convention makes the most sense. They could add another letter like they did with the 300ZX, 300ZR, 200ZG, 200ZS or 200ZR and call a 2.0T a 200ZT for touring and a 3.0TT a 300ZS for sport and the NISMO model could be a 300ZR for racing or something.
