Caliper rebuild: OEM or Centric

Centric rebuild kit could be had at a fraction of the cost, but this is an area I don't want to skimp on if they are just gonna wear down faster.

So is the OEM caliper kit superior to Centric?

FYI: No tracking. DD, canyon drives, and auto-x only running Project Mu HC+800 if that gives you an idea of possible brake temps if it matters.

It would probably be okay. Just make sure you check at both Toyota and Subaru as they often vary in prices by massive margins. For example here in Aus a Toyota Branded Subaru oil filter costs twice what the Subaru one does.

I used the centric rebuild kit and I track my car hard... Centric is actually high quality.

Odds are the parts come from the exact same place. I laugh my butt off when some people think there are 100s of places making the components that go into assemblies. The reality is that there is a handful of places that make the basic components and the only difference between them and OEM is a part number.

Yep. And it's super dealer dependant and also part dependant it seems. Some Toyota dealers are cheaper and some or way more. Some parts are cheaper and some are more expensive at the same place

Cool. Just the feedback I was looking for. I figured there was nothing wrong with it but thought it was worth asking when dealing with something important like brakes

Yeah, I figured as much but didnt hurt to ask. Especially since OEM and Centric are the only options for the rebuild kit I figure pretty good odds it's the same lol. I know for my old STi the old Napa brand parts were mostly the same as OEM

No.

At a very simple level, Centric is an OE supplier in Asia for many manufacturers.

I know someone at the parent company of Centric.

Does the caliper need to be rebuilt? Or are you doing it just because?

Not sure honestly. I know one of the boots kinda came out and not sure if I tore it trying to put it back in. I have a soft pedal at times (not consistant at all). I have bled them multiple times to no avail so figure I may have a small tear in a boot or seal? My car has 99k miles on it so figure it cant hurt either way

Toyota here puts their inventory control sticker (part number has "SU" prefix) over the Subaru sticker on the parts package, and yes they also sell for more here in Canada over the Subaru counterpart.

But Toyota dealers are usually more abundant around here, but I get more consistent wait times with Subaru if backordered and the part seems to be always Made in Japan (Toyota sometimes sub the same part made locally in North America).

Every part I've had to buy was significantly faster to order, or already in stock, through Subaru and about 20% cheaper as well. I keep calling Scion dealerships just to be sure, but they've yet to come through faster or cheaper.
