Jawns got it right, the LS3 is quite bulletproof, if anything maybe he'll start getting accessory issues like the power steering assist which had a recall recently.

It sounds like OP's got a pretty good hookup with GM anyways, so even if it needs work I'm sure he'll be taken care of. |

According to Autotrader, even a 2015 SS is $48K. So you're not exactly poor.
And you and your wife will only have one car between you? Dude, having a baby = needing a minivan or at least an SUV. Stroller, crib, bicycle in a few years, etc. You will need the space. Keep your car and get a late model minivan or SUV of your choice. EDIT-- the other thing is, you should ask her OB what the odds are of her having a miscarriage in the next couple of months. A lot of pregnancies don't go to term, so you might want to wait a bit.

in it. the evo x should be out of the question the rear boot is smaller then our 86 boot i dont know how you would be able to fit a stroller back there. your best bet would be a SUV as what im about to do. believe me you gonna need to carry all kinds of stuff in the car for the baby and no sedan will cut it. congrats and enjoy it you will love it. This is good advice. Wait until the 20 week ultrasound and see if it is a viable pregnancy. You lose nothing by waiting. Also, what if its twins? You may just skip the EVO and SS and really at that time only the Tahoe would make sense. Or what if it a special needs child? There are lots of variables. Some are great, some are difficult. Either way, wait until you know more about this pregnancy. Also, does your fiance plan on working after the pregnancy? This may effect which car makes the most sense for you. Anyway, congrats! |

Too bad you will have to give up your little sporty car ..... for the next few years at least. OK, what to buy .. ?? 4-door vehicle, yes, most important. More power ....not as important (you may find that your priorities will get changed, when you have a little one strapped in the back seat). I recommend you buy on the lower end of your transportation budget ..... because, the "child budget" will be larger than you anticipate. I suggest you get a NEW vehicle, with a good safety rating, that your fiancé/wife is comfortable driving. humfrz |

1.Don't sell/trade in the FR-S...you need more than one vehicle if you have a family and working parents. Do you already have a second vehicle? You going to burn fuel in a Gass guzzler going everywhere for any little thing? You know how lousy mpg a Chevy SS or Tahoe gets when not cruising down the highway!?
2. Get a minivan/van...anything other vehicle is doing it wrong. Nobody says you can't modify a minivan to make it handle really nice.... I'd rock one of these with no hesitation: Of course with upgraded wheels and tires, rear ARB, and exhaust system nearly right off the bat...

And to answer 86Hiro, I would go with the Evo. You've both already wanted it...It doesn't matter if you have a GM discount if the Evo is cheaper than the SS already |

I don't own a minivan, but have rented plenty of times. Honestly, a minivan is tops in terms of convenience. The large sliding doors allow for easy access. If you are in a tight parking spot, the door slides away rather than opening out. Much better to lift a baby carrier in than a regular car door. I've had a situation where the asshole next to me parks so close that the baby carrier can't fit in the opening. I have to back out and fully open the door. This is an extreme though. Another plus is the large rear hatch. Great place for a baby changing station even in rainy situations.
With our first child, we had a RAV4 and it fit everything we needed it to. If I could do it all over I would've gotten a minivan. I know minivans have a stigma and my wife refused to drive one. We met in the middle and got a Durango after our second child. It's a little smaller than the Tahoe, but effectively the same thing. If I were in your place, I would at least get a sensibly priced small suv and keep the FR-S as the weekend vehicle. BTW, congratulations. Babies are awesome. If you thought the twins made you smile, just wait till your baby gets here.

When did people suddenly think you NEED a mini-van or SUV with kids?
@86Hiro, we hauled two kids and all their associated junk around in either a Toyota Echo or Matrix. Don't fall into the hype that you need to carry enough supplies to last a month with you when you're going to visit the grandparents for a weekend! Keep the FRS and something like a Cruze or a Malibu for getting around with the baby. Oh yeah, congrats BTW. |

I would go for the Chevy SS especially if you can get an employee discount. Looks like they can handle child seats pretty easily:
As others have said though, if you can find a way to make the FR-S work (perhaps picking up a second car) that'd be ideal.

Keep the FRS, buy a Chevy Suburban, black it out and put a nice sound system in it. Sick combo
