Lug Nut Recomendations
I will be picking up my first real set of wheels here shortly and need a couple of recomendations of lug nuts that are affordable and are good quality with a nice wheel lock. Not looking for anything cheap. What's out there?
Thanks in advanced

I've used McGard for as long as I can remember without any issues. I use their splined set and prefer closed ends with the salty roads we get in the winter.

I prefer steel for strength. decide open or closed end. color/chrome plated. steel or aluminum. You can use the stock ones on after market wheels as the seat is the correct type. I have subaru locks if you are interested. *edit stock lug nuts may not work* Last edited by swarb; 12-17-2015 at 01:29 AM. |

Technically true, but this seat is not long enough in some cases. My stock lug nuts scratched marks in my RPF1's because of this.

McGard, Rays, Muteki... they all work. Just pay attention to the torque spec. Many of the aftermarket lugs are not suitible for impact use and soooooooooooooo many will warp the locking keys trying. IIRC the Rays and Muteki's only torque to 65-85ft/lbs.
Also know that a set of locking lugs isn't going to stop anyone from taking your wheels. The keys are too common and easy to get. it's only going to stop the lazy theif. Really all they will do is make it take a bit longer for the theif to steal them which is a plus but, not by much.

Anything steel or chromoly. Dont waste your time on aluminum lug nuts. Beware of fakes, and cheap chinese made lug nuts... its not worth it.

I have these http://counterspacegarage.com/produc...s-m12x125.html and they are very good. I cycle wheels on and off my car at least 6 times a month and they are still holding up great.

Also looking for after market lugnuts. It looks like there are variations on the thread specifications. I assume the 1.25, 1.5, 2.0 is length but not sure about the M# (imagine thread pitch?) Would M12 x 1.5 Thread Size be correct?

I definitely recommend a steel lug nut of your choice if you plan on doing continuous wheel install/uninstall (such as track set).

Our studs are 1.25 pitch. So, you want M12 x 1.25. |

I bought them after my cheapy lugs from PepBoys started looking like crap after a few months. They are holding up great and still look like new. The package comes with 16 regular nuts, and 4 locks. They are expensive on the site, I found mine for like $80 IIRC on ebay, brand new. http://www.mcgard.com/index.php/comp...-storage-pouch |
