What to do after putting in wrong transmission fluid
I mistakenly put Motul 300 LS into my 2013 transmission today. Managed to catch the mistake right after I finished filling it and quickly drained it all out. The car now has no fluid in the trans and I haven't moved the car since. I later ordered Redline MT90 75W90 (regular Motul 300 was out of stock).
I was wondering if any possible damage/problem from the LS fluid can be done to the transmission through this quick fill and drain. and when I fill with the Redline later on, should I do a flush? Any opinions and thoughts are appreciated. Thanks! Last edited by jaits; 11-07-2022 at 12:57 AM. |

I'd drive it on the first refill for a bit and do it once again for good measure. Likely just a waste of good oil but worth the peace of mind. Do it while the trans is still warm.

When my shop did my transmission fluid they accidentally ordered all 300ls, so we called Motul and they said it wouldn't be an issue to run it.

Don't worry about, just refill the transmission with the proper stuff and drive the car. |

If you haven't driven much on the LS fluid, like Ultramaroon said, drive it *gently* for a bit on the new fluid, and then change again.
From my understanding, the LS fluid has higher ZDDP content. It's harsh on yellow metals only under pressure. They create a hard layer on top of the metal base when under pressure - it's harder than the base material itself that it pits the base metal during regular wear and tear. Once you replace the GL-5 with a GL-4, the concentration will be diluted enough to be considered safe *by me*, but to be on the safe side flush after a few miles of warmup and *gentle* driving. |

Thank you for all the replies and help. Just a quick update since my last post. After I had gotten the new Redline oil, I drained the old Motul and flushed it with a quarter liter of Redline to get the residues out. I am sure that there is a better and safer method as mentioned by others but it was the best I can do given the circumstance. Currently been driving the car for over a month and the shifts are nice and smooth.
