Yes, I like doing my own work, my car has never been to a dealership or mechanic except for alignment.

There are very few mechanics I trust and I'm very cheap.

Drop it off!

Note that I'm cheap for my local rates, in my experience bigger (more economically balanced) metros have more competition, LA for example has dirt cheap mechanics, I wouldn't be surprised if NY was similar.

$100/hour is almost the minimum now, most shops start with a $150 diagnostic charge (that gets applied to the final bill so you're not totally getting fucked).

I'm curious what is the advantage to these door strap mods I keep seeing. Does it take weight out of the door mechanism? Or is it just something to be different, look cool?

Definitely not a performance upgrade due to weight savings because any difference is extremely negligible. However, with the way I have built my 86 in and out especially in the interior, this modification completes the look.

I really hated chrome anything in my interior.. the Australian market black I could have lived with if I had it from the git go... but I didn't and I am handy and confident enough to pull this modification off and so I did.

I really enjoy all these projects I take on... very satisfying when it all works out and looks good.

oh... and Porche's have them... lol

I wonder if there is a nylon step bushing that would fit between the screw and the brass grommet?

I finished up half this mod last night but made the following video of the completed passenger side door strap pull in action this morning.

passenger side Door Strap Pull video

I should have the driver side completed this afternoon. Scroll to the side on the aforementioned link to see an image of the completed install.

**Edit**Driver side Door Strap Pull complete.

Tried wrapping the matte black upper grille bar on the front of my 86. Wrapping is a lot harder than I thought. Biggest waste of time ever. Pulled it off and threw it out. Pissed as hell now

Effing gravel truck on 94 with his cover off...what a Richard.

Deep gouge and tiny diameter. The scratch below is any easy fix. Damn.
