This is akin to comparing worn tires to brand new ones. It will certainly be different, but a single point of time comparison probably isn't all that representative.

I think the ideal comparison would be between a stock low milage 2020 and 2022/3 by a good track driver who didn't recently own a Twin (or even never owned a Twin). I vote for Throttle House (Thomas being a good track driver who's into BMWs, and seems to be able to adjust his reviewing very well to the kind of car he is driving).
This has been a concern of mine all along. There were many many incremental improvements from the first release in 2012. Things like fit and finish can not be based solely on the first run of the FRS. To start with they were deliberately a base car to hit price point. Even comparing a base FRS to a post 17 86 can show a vast improvement in such things yet since there are so many more 13s it is what is used most often. Wear and tear and mods also have to come into play.
Things like steering and clutch “feel” are subjective to individual taste. There can also be a heavy bias to what is familiar. I highly doubt that one is “better” than the other in the long run.
I know that my 2020 86 has a totally different feel in almost all aspects to my 100,000+ mile FRS.
As far as the improvements to the GR that people rant about it had bloody well be better than a 10 year old car!

It can be balanced by the “it is new and what I have” bias though.

It was a single word reply in the comment section that I found the most telling. If we forget the clickbait thumbnail for the algorithm- if you watch enough of his videos on the platform (including podcasting with TheTopher and Zygrene), it’s clear that he seeks to be as objective as possible. Despite greatly preferring the aesthetics of the new model, he’d still take gen 1 if it had the FA24.

That's an easy yes (assuming 2017+ model).

No joke. I'm wondering why not more people are even talking about this? I'm literally checking for updates every other week. I want to see what these 2nd gens can do with a header and e85, that's going to be a big deciding factor in me wanting to upgrade or not.

Ecutek back in March/April said they were starting development. OFT said the same thing.

Because of how few are on the road, I suspect the priority is very low and would be very surprised if we see anything before Q1 of 2023, I suspect Q2 or later is more realistic.

Also, the recent EPA crackdowns has to dampen interest in it as well

This is an interesting wrinkle. We're not out there rolling coal, but those idiots have obviously made it a bit risky for tuners to do their thing for other vehicles.

Blame the pop and bang guys in our segment.

Toyota seems to have taken a harder stance on tuning at least from my observation. The new supras haven't been cracked yet either.

Only thing worse than a pop tune bro is a clout chasing pop tune bro.. I won't even drive near the hotboi Friday/Saturday meet spots anymore. Police having a field day ticketing kids and anything that looks modified.

Well, not a good track driver - not a track driver at all. But my first experience with the platform was a brand new 2020 BRZ manual/limited which I bought in September 2020 and sold in March 2022 with 32,000 miles in. It had OFT/e85/JDL UEL uncatted headers and a lot of aftermarket stereo work. And the only thing I miss at all about it is the stereo.

I understand people will disagree, even some Gen2 owners. Just my 2 cents...

Are the steering feel comparisons taking into account similar tyres in terms of compound grip levels, construction (sidewall stiffness) and dimensions?
