18x9.5 +45 (square) VS 18x9.5 +35 Front 18x8.5 +40 Rear (staggered)

EDIT: Heading is incorrect (typo)


Hey Guys,

I have had a quick look around but cannot find a comparison on these two options...

18x9.5 +45 square
VS
18x8.5 +35 (Front), 18x9.5 +40 (Rear)

What is the preferred setup for performance?? Would I feel a difference between the two.

Pros and Cons between the two would be good

If there is already a discussion on the above two setups, please let me know

Why would you go to a smaller width on the rear?

cars designed to use a square setup typically do better with a square setup. you might gain some steering feel with the smaller fronts but that can quickly turn into oversteer

Thanks for the info... The thing that threw me is that I see a lot of track people going for the staggered setup saying that it better handling than a squared setup... Why is that?

you would have to ask them about it. there are many factors that dicate the nature of the car. i would guess that its mainly placebo. if you drop 1500 on wheels/tires, its going to feel 1500 faster. on the other hand my opinions isnt any thing more than speculation. i know that the car comes from the factory with a square setup so i would think thats what its optimized for.

the only reason a fr car would need more rear would be to put down tons of power but thats not a problem with this car.

I have 9.5 et38 square and the front rim/tire is very close to the spring. I may be wrong but feeling in there with my finger being pinched, id say a et45 will rub alot unless u run very stretched tires. Even then, the lip of my rim is very close to the perch as well

I haven't heard of any serius track guys on here running a staggered setup for this car. For track stuff i'd expect people to stay square. Staggered is generally for looks not performance on these cars.

I'm running a staggered setup and the car feels about 40% more planted and more nimble in the bends... Haven't gotten it out on the track yet but I will... And I think with a little more power the.staggered setup will be better overall, but that's just my opinion and observations...

What is $1500 faster? Intake, Exhaust and Tune? Headers and Exhaust? Intake, Headers and tune? I know you're trying to be helpful, but $1500 faster means nothing and doesn't help the OP.

Another useless number. There's a measurement for planted? 40%? How do you even begin to approach that? Again this doesn't really help the OP.

I agree with this. Also, what kind of power levels are you running? 9.5 square all around might make you slower at stock or slightly above stock power levels, and you may lose some steering feel.
