Parking brake "delete"

So if you get rid of the parking brake the wheel bearing needs the spacing of the drum brake backplate to mount the rotor and wheel bearing at the right offset. 3/8 thick 7075 Aluminum 6x6", a 83mm hole saw, a drill press, a grinder and about 4 hours you can make some plates. Not perfect but will work.

Love it dude! Always impressed by people who fabricate their own parts.

I was thinking of deleting the parking brake on my 86 track car. May I ask why the spacers? Thanks, Bill

because if you get rid of the entire parking brake assembly and don't use spacers then the brake rotor will no longer be the right offset for the caliper.

I went the redneck route, cut the backblack/dustshield with a grinder and leave it somewhat similar to what you have there :P

One last question, are you not using the original style rear rotors that have the drum in the center? I have measured mine and installed the calibers and have normal clearance. Now if I install a front rotor on the rear it is off by about 3/8" requiring a spacer.
Thanks,
Bill

yes I was using the original rotors just with no drum brake. I don't know anything about putting a front rotor on the rear. seems like it would make sense that it wouldn't line up.

Thanks, mine seem to line up now. I have not run the lugs down on a wheel yet. I will check again and see if the rotor binds. Thanks for the feedback.

Is this mod just to save weight or are there other reasons?

sorta...I have inline hydraulic handbrake so don't need the parking brake, and only have one rear caliper.
