As my 14 got older there were notably less noises. I can't say I have seen any reviews on the later ones that mentioned interior noises. Mostly just road noise. The my 2020 has zero interior noises so far.
That said it is a light weight car with very little fluff to hide the noises that even the best of cars make both interior or road.

Heck if i didnt care all that much about it i probably would have an 86 sitting in the garage right now. Maybe im just a bit more 'grown up' than before and i would prefer to have the niceties (plus all my cars right now have someniceties that the base 86 doesnt have).

the armrest is nice actually. I had a Honda Fit with a center armrest but...it was weirdly not designed at the same height as the door armrest so it was basically useless......(it was a little too low for me to rest my arm on). I rest my arm all the time on the center arm rest in my current cars so it'll be something i'd want to get. I thinkt he sliding one is better than that other one that flips to one side. The height is correct, at least from when i tried, and i think its a little taller than that flip one. The sliding mechanism is pretty smooth and seems like it stays in place ok. The "locking" mechanism doesnt seem super secure so i feel like eventually it might wear to the point that you can end up moving it around with your elbow
It isn't the controls so much as all those damned lights that I object to.
I guess that "cheap" looking is also subjective since I never thought of the FRS as such. Basic yes. Cheap no.

My 2017 has had rattles since the day I bought it. Most have been fixed easily with a bit of hockey tape but a few persist. It's what makes a Subaru, a Subaru.

That's what you get for buying a BRZ. They take all the bad ones on the line and use them for the BRZs and keep the good ones for 86s.

so i understand that all vehicles are designed by numerous committee's. but GM somehow seems to suck the fun and enjoyment out of their cars. they make 'designed by committee' a bad thing. t

heir most recent interiors tick all the same boxes as all the other brands in similar categories, but there's just something about it all that is just 'off'. like a really good cover of a mainstream song. you know the tune, know the words, but when it comes down to it, it's just not the same.

And then they have to brainwash their customers into thinking their cars are quality by paying for fake awards and making commercials where paid actors go: ‘OMG itS liEk a AuDI haD A bABy wItH a TEslA aNd TheN maRrIEd a lEXis! OmG!?!?’

Sometimes I contemplate picking up a new 2020 simply because I hope they might have fixed the interior rattles. But I have seen several posts like this that let me know they definitely have not. It seems like a crap shoot whether you car will have the rattles or not. Some people just get lucky but most don't.

My 2016 has a small rattle FI think from the passenger seat. Other than that I have been lucky. To be honest the music and exhaust are louder than rattles.

Hah, yea, I've never figured out why Chevy thinks I'm going to be impressed by the impressions of a group of people that can't look at a debadged car and at least one of them know who the manufacturer is. Particularly a Malibu that screams "I'm a Chevy" so loud it hurts.

No rattles whatsoever in my 2017 with 30k+ miles on the clock. Honestly it's been a much more solidly put-together car than I expected.

Well I must be lucky then because mine is totally rattle free. The 14 had a rattle in the A pillar but a good solid whack every couple of months took care of that.
I always chuckle when I read some of the biggest complainers threads.
Turboed with the loudest BOV I can find, went catless header and straight pipe exhaust, threw some $500 coilovers on, Stripped out the interior and bolted in a home made roll cage, have super hard performance tires but THIS CAR SUCKS BECUASE THERE IS A CLICK IN THE TRUNK.

I repeat it is an inexpensive car with as little weight as they could get away with so there are going to be small sounds. At their worst they should be a minor annoyance but our brains like to fixate on such things and blow them way out of proportion.

My '13 has almost 170,000 miles and no rattles whatsoever. When it was new I had a rattle from the drivers door speaker that would drive me nuts. I took the door card apart and foamed up the speaker area. But it turned out the rattle was coming from my garage door opener that I had clipped to the door.

Soooo... the second gen "insider" info is now the new "noises in my cheap sports car" thread!
It is an improvement.
