Actually, first gen Impreza who had bout same spec as 86/BRZ (170hp/165tq w +-2800lbs) do very well in daily drive. Had a enough gut to zip through the street and did very well in autox and track. I didn't "need" more power... but of course, I "wanted" more power from my Impreza.

As for the OP, fast or slow opinion is individual opinion and it varies, there's no right answer to that. It's slow car to you doesn't mean, it's slow car to others. I'm not far off if I say, most owner doesn't use this car to full potential, but wanting more... BUT we see owner wrapping their car around pole/tree like burrito.

We read more about unhappy owners more than happy owner, cuz happy owners are too busy driving this car and having blast time.

Just my 2yen

This article is the closest I've ever come to registering on Jalopnik just to comment that I agree with it. Miatas are great cars for their intended purpose but for the love of god I do not want to hear about them anymore....
lol

stef must need the money for her porch to spin such a flimsy argument into that tryhard click bait.

tl;dr
no roof, no trunk, and it's too popular means she won't be a happy unique little snowflake in it.

The underlying gold of that article is that throughout she doesn't even question the fact that it's an awesome sports car. I mean, I didn't and likely won't buy one for the exact same reasons she "hates it" (except I like the looks), but then again I don't get paid by the click for what I write.

DANG!, there @Apex-Apex ....... therein, with those modifications, lies the truth ......

You just done went and spoilt yourself ....

Sort of like back in the day, having a 283 cu. in. Chevrolet V-8, with a 2 barrel carburetor then putting on 2 - 4 barrel carburetors and a high lift cam and saying the pre-modded car didn't have enough power to get out of the way of itself ......

I think the problem is that many expect it to be a highly capable race car that you can use on the streets when in fact it is a street car that can be used to race. These are two different priorities when being designed.

Your own build sort of shows that thought process since you consider it a "subtle yet fun street car" when it is anything but subtle (should be fun as hell though and it is nice work which I strongly applaud).

Current Modifications:

•Voltex Type 7 Swan Neck 1700mm

So yes, your car may be better at all things but that does not for one second make the stock/near stock version "horrible" or "painful" to drive daily no matter where you are.
If that is subtle my car is showroom stock

6-2? Holy crap. RPMs be like

I'd guess most people buy Miatas precisely because of how little car you get for the money!

It's definitely not for everyone though, no matter how much "the answer is always Miata" crowd likes to think it is.

Miata = 45k Canadian out the door
FRS was 32k Canadian out the door.

Nope. I like the Miata, but not that much.

A Miata will naturally be perceived as faster when you drive with the top down.

I'm quite comfortable on my twitchy RD400. In part cuz I'm wearing a helmet. Not so much when I'm descending a steep mountain on my road race bicycle at a fraction of the RD's speed. Mostly cuz I can feel and hear the wind in my face.

Perception is reality.

But still would you buy the Miata if prices were closer? I wouldn't. But I don't like drop tops for everyday drivers. As a fun car for some events maybe. But not a daily driver.

I've hated the Miata from day one. There's nothing about the car that appeals to me. I would've rather have a Buick Reatta.
