Dsport FR-S Intake testing

Not sure if anyone saw the video's they posted up, but for somereason they were taken down. They tested blitz, injen, takeda, aem, avo, trd, hks. I happen to browse through all of them and most of them made around 5-6hp over stock. the ones that barely made a difference was the trd(2.5hp) and hks(0.6hp)..if anyone has the magazine or the videos post them up

I saw all these too and was surprised at a) how little the AEM gave bc it was supposedly a 10whp increase with the chip and b) how the drop in filters were same or better than almost all of the full intakes....

OEM air box is well designed hence drop in filter works well, those full CAI are more for show :happy0180:

Shame they didn't test the Perrin or FA20 CAIs.

The results of this really weren't too surprising since everything that I have seen regarding intake dynos that have been posted here over the last 8 months. Everything seems to point to the OEM filter being the most restrictive component of the stock intake system. This explains why drop-in filters provide nearly the same hp gains as the "best" intakes out there.

Of course, the dyno only tells part of the story. The drivability of the car can vary wildly between intake to intake. For example, the Injen. Without a tune, they are prone to significant idle issues and sluggish throttle response off idle.

I think at the end of the day, between the best of the intakes, it just boils down to the noise they make, how much you're willing to spend, and which one you prefer to look at when you pop your hood.

Sorted by gain (or loss):

BLITZ intake + 6.7 WHP
AFE TakEDA intake + 6.3 WHP
Blitz filter + 6.1 WHP
AEM intake +5.8 WHP
K&N filter + 5.7 WHP
INJEN intake +5.6 WHP
AVO intake + 5.5 WHP
A'PEXi filter + 5.5 WHP
K&N intake + 4.3 WHP
TRD intake + 2.5 WHP
HKS intake + 1.5 WHP
Weapon-R intake - 0.6 WHP

Not really feasible for a test like this, but it would be nice to see what each made after a tune specific to the intake as well.

Where can I find the blitz replacement filter? I checked a bunch of my usual parts sites and tried to google search it. Anyone have a link?

Appreciate the link! Was hoping to find it with a vendor instead of ordering like that. Wonder how the Perrin drop-in filter compares.

All of the results are within 3.6% or so of stock, and who knows what the conditions were.

Moral of the story: If you really want the most power for your money, a drop in filter is all you need. + or - 3% of total horsepower is well within a dyno's margin of error. Find a company you like or a good deal and jump on it. :happy0180:

I would guess any drop in is going to be similar in gains. You can probably find the Blitz the cheapest on EBay.
