What they need to release are these cars, but with 0 miles. Please get back to bare bones cars... I know it'll never happen but damn. 80s and 90s cars are ideal.

You and I both know they'll charge out the butt just like Nissan is doing for their program building new R32's.

i can't wait for more details on that ev conversion. using a standard radiator, as well as what appears to be an ft-86 sourced transmission.

it'd also interesting to me how they drifted the ev around the track, but just did a parade lap in the hydrogen version.

+1 to being able to buy a car like that new. toyota could sell them in kits, and still wouldn't be able to keep them in stock!

I'd be more comfortable paying over 20k for a new 80s car that I actually want, than some plastic technology you have no choice but to opt into now. I'm just having a night, it'll pass soon

Nissan is NOT building new R32s, lets not mix things up.

the Nismo Heritage program was meant to offload production of regular parts for niche/desired cars (like R32/33/34) to low volume production/batches, that would have no impact on Nissan's parts division P&L.

then they introduced a program where a current road legal Skyline GT-R can be essentially refreshed so it is like-new. the program would tear the car down and clean it up, refreshing/reusing existing parts if possible, but refreshing with updated modern materials

one of the biggest things about cars and how it is built now is also something no one talks about outside of OEM circles, which is how materials and construction have improved safety. for example, the Heritage program would replace your existing seats with new seat covering material, that tries to be close to original but updated to meet current safety standards for flammability.

a lot of attention to detail. for the average enthusiast all they see is a car and a price tag, and nothing else about why it costs the way it does.

Toyota global PR with a whole whack of information.

https://www.drive.com.au/news/classi...ydrogen-power/

This is the only link so far ive found that talks exclusively about the AE86 BEV and H2 conversions.

Im curious how the BEV model works...it apparently uses the original AE86 5 speed MT in some manner (not software programmed like the EV stick they tested in that Lexus UX mule)
And in that video above about the AE86 conversions, the BEV car still sounds like it has a real engine too....

Thanks for the correction. Like-new cars.

My point in relation to the quote stands. If Toyota is gonna build cars like these to sell to general public, they'd likely put that level of effort in. Hence, they'll still be charging out of the butt.

And no, that's not me just ragging on a price tag and not why it costs the way it does. I'm an engineer, I know full well about how many factors influence the cost of a product.

That doesn't change the fact that the level of work Nissan does, and in this case Toyota would probably do, will cost a hell of a lot more than most of us on a forum like this could ever hope to afford.

the video pretty clearly shows an ft86 knob and reverse lockout, so i'm somewhat convinced that they're using a newer 6 speed, likely because it was already on hand, either old overstock from the past gen, or new stock from the 2nd gen.

if they were using the original 5 speed, it shouldn't need the reverse lockout collar. unless of course they managed to fit it in just to mess with us all.

i'm most curious as to where those cars came from. does toyota have a random warehouse that they keep a backstock of 40 year old cars?

Maybe yes, maybe no.

When I last went and went to Osaka Auto Messe (similar car show), I met a group of students from Toyota Kobe University. They were presenting a completely rebuilt AE86 Levin that they told me they found on-campus just rotting away.

They were able to source parts from Toyota, and basically every panel was restored. Even the inside like seats, steering wheel, dash, etc. were brand new and smelled brand new (I got to sit inside, it was nuts). Of course they also had the obligatory visit from Keiichi Tsuchiya and autograph on their vanity mirror or ceiling, lol.
