Storing Track/Street tires in the winter

Hey all,

What do you guys do with your track tires for the winter?

For the Hankook RS4 the manufacturer says the tires cant flex if below freezing temperature or it may cause irreversible damage. IS it OK to keep them on the car over the winter as long as they aren't driven on?

Proper winter storage is important for any summer tire. Is your car parked outdoors or indoors? It'll probably be fine even in a non-heated garage but they'll definitely be permanently damaged if your car is sitting outside.

I always remove my track wheels/tires and keep them inside my house during the winter. It is pretty critical so that the tires don't prematurely crack. Even if they don't crack, I've always found them to be slower the next year if they are stored in the cold.

Do you have them on an extra set of wheels? If so, just bring them inside for the winter.

Tires should be stored in a cool, (read temperature controlled) dry location out of direct sun light. The problem with storing tires in an unheated garage or outside is the temperature fluctuations. If you leave them on the car jack the car up off the ground to take the weight off.

I have always stored my cars in a non-heated garage and never encountered any issues. Always left the vehicle parked on the floor. Both with regular tires and track tires.

When left on the floor and stationary I will increase the inflation pressure of the tires.
