I have to go back. I had too many tickets today, and the bartender ran out of money. Plus I have to take downton Abby back to the Redbox. Shit, I guess I do have to work tomorrow!

Crap, and it is supposed to snow!

I think a big part of why some kids don’t take work seriously comes from how they were raised. Of course everyone is responsible for their own actions, but the parents have something to do with it. My parents came here from a different country and don’t speak English. They have worked hard to payoff our home and their cars and take care of our family. They’ve never taken anything for granted, been smart and responsible with money, and have taken their work very, very seriously. And I picked up on a lot of that.

Some people get shit handed to them and never learn the value of hard work. It’s sad to see people bitch about having to do the work they literally applied for. I think missing work constantly is unacceptable. Yes I understand things happen, but you have to draw the line somewhere. People count on you to show up and get things done.

Third four-day weekend in a row. Burning off unused PTO. The struggle.

Update on my daughter.

After lots of lab work, a CT scan and two MRIs, the doctors think she has Parsonage Turner Syndrome. Ya, I had never heard of it either.

"Parsonage–Turner syndrome, also known as acute brachial neuropathy and neuralgic amyotrophy, is a syndrome of unknown cause; although many specific risk factors have been identified (such as; post-operatively, post-infectious, post-traumatic or post-vaccination),[4] the cause is still unknown. The condition manifests as a rare set of symptoms most likely resulting from autoimmune inflammation of unknown cause of the brachial plexus.[5] (The brachial plexus is a complex network of nerves through which impulses reach the arms, shoulders and chest.)".

So, with antibiotics (just in case they have misdiagnosed her condition) pain medication and physical therapy, she should recover.

This post kinda reminds me of the neighborhood I grew up in, and my kids. My parents were a teacher, and a school administrator in a neighborhood of lockeed engineers and executives, HP and IBM people, etc. We were the poor people and everyone looked down on us. My parents raised 3 boys, all 3 got college degrees, we all are doing great. I can tell you many stories of guys my age that had uber rich parents, nothing but opportunity, and are in jail or worse, or still rely on mommy and daddy in their 50s.

Then my kids. I have friends who still finance their 20 to 30 year old kids lives. I told my kids from day one that I expect them to support themselves. They all do. Kids live up to your expectations. Good parenting is essential.

Very tempting but I have somber duty here. Close friend is in hospice. Pancreatic cancer. Last days.

That’s great. Sounds like you and your family came out on top. It’s sad to see how people look down on other people less wealthy. I don’t get it. I’d rather be “poor” and happy than rich and miserable. Not saying money and all that isn’t important, but it’s certainly not everything. If I ever have kids, I’ll definitely want to raise them them the same way I was. Work for what you want and appreciate what you have.
