They're not that efficient. A ~20kW - 25kW loss at the top end for the Harrop or Edelbrock kits seems pretty significant to me.

I don't think he ever blew his auto trans, I think it was just slipping under boost. I don't believe he had any trans mods.

Small world. I don't remember exactly why Johan decided to switch up. He even corrected me once when I misquoted him. The AT held just fine for track use. For reference - https://www.ft86club.com/forums/show...77#post2972277

The turbo setup that he had made less torque down low and resolved his trans issues. Plus he said it was more "fun" and made the noises he wanted, it was an open dump wastegate. I bought the turbo setup he had but ended up not using it and selling it a while back.

I drove that kit in the original installation. It is very close to how I would build.

Looks like he was making almost 100% more power vs stock, and only had trans over heating issues causes slipping. When not over heated was just fine. (An issue I never had especially with my trans cooler)

He had some odd shifting issues too, but yeah, it could have been fixed with a cooler.

From the brief dealings I had with him he seemed to move from one thing to the next pretty quickly regardless of if it worked or not.

Not sure what his shifting issues where.
But he probably never had the transmission tuned.
And/or could be from overheating.
I know overheating will cause slipping and then even a few times can kill the clutch packs pretty quick and then they start slipping in normal conditions.

My tuner tuned the trans shifts to bite harder and faster, i had a trans cooler, and never came close to overheating. Never had any issues holding power. Had some shifting issues before the trans tuning though.

He was probably making more top end WHP but probably similar peak torque as me.

Lots of ATs making solid power with no issues. Or just over heating because no trans cooler. But that’s like blaming FI for over heating your engine oil but you go no oil cooler.
