My BC Racing ER Type coilover review

Ok so I have a 2013 BRZ, and I was the first to have the BC Racing ER type coilovers installed on one of these...I do autocross and am currently setting the car up to compete in STX (I already run in the class the car just isn't fully to spec yet) all I have at this moment are the coilovers, and a set of toyo Proxes R1Rs 235/45/17...I have had them on the car for about three months now, and now with some decent experience with them, I thought I'd give an honest assessment...I've kept notes along the way so that I didn't forget what I was thinking about them at the time. So some of this will be copied, and pasted from my notes

First a little about my experience, and where I get my opinion from. I don't work for BC, and am not currently (there's always hope lol) formally affiliated with them. My experience includes numerous track events, and a 4.5 year stint running SCCA SOLO2, and Pro SOLO. I've driven everything from stock FWD HS class stuff to fully prepped BSP national championship winning car...so that's me in a nutshell...now, on with the review!

First impression (after drive from Orlando to Tampa) Ok home now...the things that I noticed on the ride home are that the damping helps fairly dramatically on initial acceleration, used to be that it would a pair of fairly long 11's on an agressive 1-2 upshift, and the most I could get it to do now is barely chirp...big improvement...the ride is surprisingly comfortable, handling bumps and even railroad tracks with relatively little drama...the only thing that is noticeably much harsher is over undulating surface conditions (like over a bridge) but that is to be expected I suppose lol...the other negative is that it did lose some of the feedback...steering used to feed back and feel pretty heavy, it has a bit more of a vague feeling now, and is a bit easier to turn the wheel...I'd chalk that up to having less caster though...

After a month of driving right before my first autocross on them: They've been great...seriously I can't say enough about them, I've been very happy with the daily use ride quality, the stroke length is mind blowing for such a short piece (the body of the shock itself is very short)...I will say that ill leave the final verdict for the event this weekend, but just the little bit of testing I've been able to do there does seem to be a bit of under steer now with the sticky rubber, but again I've not gotten anywhere near heating the tires properly, or close to the grip limit, so like I said I'll see, and try to adjust it out if needed...but honestly, they feel amazing, I feel much more confident with what the car will and won't do and how it will react going into this event, than I was going into the baseline event I did before the install... (I did an autocross before the install to establish a baseline feel for the car on a stock setup)

After the first event on the setup: The car felt very neutral, the suspension stayed incredibly flat, ill be getting it aligned and corner weighted by the next event (as long as my camber bolts come in that is) it never got even vaguely sketchy which makes me think that maybe it's not close enough to the edge and I'm losing time...hopefully the alignment can help out. (Video link [ame]http://youtu.be/ZrmleFiklCQ[/ame] )

After an autocross double header last week: Ok...so update on the setup...STILL waiting on the rear camber bolts, but I've tracked it a few times since install, and I will say that currently at the limit I get quite a bit of understeer, I am thinking it's mostly because I have rear camber but no front camber so when the fronts roll onto the outside of the tread patch, the rears are just starting to flatten out to provide a wider tread patch, as soon as I get the camber bolts it's getting aligned and hitting the scales for corner weighting...I have 17x9 enkei RPF1s on order for next week...(video of first event [ame]http://youtu.be/SP8E1-1cIgE[/ame] this one is where I learned just how incredible the ERs are...I watched several setup cars scrape, or break stuff making that final hairpin, and mine had ZERO drama (aside from the understeer) the track was REALLY rough, and the car stayed remarkably settled...if after the corner weight and alignment I'm still getting understeer, ill switch springs. I currently am runnin 1k springs in the front, and 800 springs in the rear, but they provided 1k springs for the rear as well just in case) (video of second event [ame]http://youtu.be/BxBvIUDgFQo[/ame] the cone I tagged is because of the understeer that I'm getting, even transitionally)

And that brings it up to current...just got word my camber bolts are in, and I should have the car set up by The Florida state championships in October, and ill be sure to keep you guys all updated.

Oh and here is a photo shoot from this weekend, so you can see how it sits...I still have another inch I could drop it, but it seems happy at the current height

They're the ER series, it's the high end ones on their application list. The BR type is the ones they've had for this car for a whole, the ER type were just getting in when I got them.
