HKS single exit cat back exhaust drone!!!

Hey guys, i just bought my first 86 not long ago, and i've installed the HKS single exit cat back exhaust on the car, the exhaust sounds really good from the outside and not too loud which's good for where i live, the thing is it drones a lot especially at around 3k rpm.

I currently have both my header and front pipe stock, so im wondering if the drone will be reduced if i get the hks dual resonator front pipe, if not, guess ill have to let this great sounding exhaust go.

I honestly don't believe anything will reduce drone better than the stock front pipe. Unless you weld more catalytic converters onto it to replace all that useless empty space between the pipe walls

how if i have my local muffler shop make me a custom front pipe with a silencer on it, would that help?
I'm just a fan of how single exit muffler looks, thats why i really wanna keep this setup!

I have the V2 which is the same, but a different rear muffler. It doesnt drone at all with a catless header. Its loud, but no drone. If you dont like it and youre stock, its not going to get better with a different front pipe.

Unless you go with Fujitsubo maybe.

I also like the single exit look! Honestly it won't really help. The vibration really is coming from the straight through canister design, which is part of the design of the muffler.

You could try having them weld a second catalytic converter in
There is a straight section near the back they could probably weld in an additional resonator, but I'm not sure it'd help. Turn the music up!

Thank you guys for the advices!!!

I'll bring it to the muffler shop and see what they can do, if it still drones like crazy, then ill probably go with a different setup.

You don't need another Cat, you need another muffler. Some resonators will do the trick too. Might be trial and error unless you can find an exhaust shop that knows their shit.

No way the HKS single v2 with Catless headers doesn’t drone??? Are you NA or Turbo or Supercharged? Also if it’s loud but doesn’t drone are you referring to the volume outside of the vehicle? I’m looking for a setup that can possibly have less drone than my current one (Invidia N2 Catback + Tomei UEL headers). Sounds great on the outside but has decently bad drone on freeway speeds and even just riding around rowing through gears sometimes. Even before I put headers it was decently drony when you compared it to the actual volume it emits on the outside so you can imagine the headers just exaggerated it. Any sound clips from inside?

Well, you ordered the racing version of that exhaust... did you not think it might be loud? The street version is likely what you wanted, which looks like this (different rear muffler). I have the street version seen below on my car. While it is on the louder side of things, it doesn't drone much. Stock FP + Tomei UEL catless header.

Maybe there is a difference of definition on "DRONE". Maybe. Being loud doesnt mean it drones. Its when the exhaust resonance vibrates inside the car. My muffler delete droned right at 2700rpm. This HKS Hi-Power V2 "w/ silencer" doesnt do that even with a Gruppe-S catless header and matching overpipe. That chamber hanging off the center resonator is what helps.

What about without the silencer? And no video clips within the cabin?

There is no slip-in silencer, thats just what HKS call the fatter rear section muffler. The V1 is the chrome fart can that hangs below the bumper. Ill try to get a video.
