Yup, S2k has a lot more wheel torque due to extremley high agressive gearing (4.8 i think?) and you can rev it 2000 RPM over the 86 redline. Powerband for those cars is similar to ours (all the power is above 6k RPM) however because of the extra 2000 RPM when they shift they get right back into the sweet spot. In our cars if you shift too early or too slow you hit that torque dip which slows us down.


But yeah i was only able to beat my friends AP1 AFTER my supercharger.

All S2000's had 4.10 diff gearing.

I have uel header, full exhaust system, w/ e85 stg2 tune. Roughly 230HP.
I did a pull with my friend's s2000 on a straight line.
We had a similar 0-60 until we shift to 3rd gear, he starts slightly pull away by little.
But overall, 0-60 s2000 faster just by few inches different.

I've done a rolling start drag racing against AP1 while I was on E85 and stock headers. By the time I shifted into third I was several car lengths ahead. Maybe the driver was slow, maybe that F20 was tired, who knows?

Csg Mike claims that his 86 will pull on a stock s2000. Driver can make a large difference. Dont forget the ap2 has a larger, higher revving motor. Who cares anyway?

Stock vs stock? Driver sucked in the S2K then. Stock vs stock the MR2T would be very close.

Since one car for the OP in this case isn't stock, it's kind of pointless to compare against a stock MR2. I'll meet him at a drag strip with my 94 MR2 Turbo, it's barely modified.. and faster then my RS..

My 17 BRZ can pull on a stock s2000, depending on what tires and wheels I have on.

A stock BRZ will pull on a stock s2000 in a narrow window of speeds.

No NA bolt-on BRZ has a chance against a S2000 with a test pipe and tune.


For the record, I own both a S2000 and a BRZ, and have clocked well over 100k miles in both platforms.

Not that I need to validate CSGMike, but I also have a 17 BRZ running ACE/DTFF/E85 and I also have an S2000 with a berk test pipe, while running a canned tune off of Hondata.

As good as the BRZ with the ACE is, when the S2000 is surging above 6k rpms....there is no mistaking the difference in power and the acceleration.

So plus 2 for the S2k with tune and TP.

I would defer to CSGMike on this, but it is my understanding that in NA form the TP (elimination of the OEM Cat) is by far the best bang for buck. It was worth it to me.

However, items like the header/manifold and cat back systems seem to help more with response and fleshing out the power band, more than giving big peak gains. But, I bet Mike could add more depth to the S2k bolt on mods.

It only responds to a TP, which is universal to any car. It's simple physics; you're removing the largest restriction in the intake/exhaust piping.

You know that I've had both also, but it wasn't a 2017 BRZ not sure if they are faster not, but the 2013 BRZ didn't stand a chance against my 06 S2K, stock vs stock. Maybe with drag radials

IIRC 0-60 in the 13 BRZ was low-mid 6s range.Again, 2017 might be faster now. The 06 S2K was mid 5s.

Both slow to the current daily driver miss piggy...

Nope, the 2017 isn't really faster. Maybe some magazines were able to quantify something, but as a driver its nada. Now, I will say that it feels like the response is a little better, and the dip is still there. Vaguely different, but still there. Essentially the acceleration is the same, you just shift earlier.

Although my memories could be biased as of now, I have owned a 13, 15 and now 17 BRZ. So I have run the gamut.
