Clicking Noise in the rear area while Coasting

Hey guys,

I am very desperate, nobody seems to find the issue and I can’t find a thread discussing this problem etc.

SEE VIDEO :

So basically, in my Propshaft / Differential area, there is a “clicking” noise who appears while coasting, as soon as I press the Gas Pedal it stops immediately. It also occurs while downshifting and letting of the clutch (not rev-matching), 3 rapid clicks...

Checked :
- CV Joint are good
- Axle Nut has been changed
- Differential Mounts seem to be noisy, and one of the mounts bolt was little bit bent, but wasn’t replaced for now

Thinking :
- Maybe loose/broken propshaft ?
- Loose Differential mounts
- Broken Differential

All help would be great, please help me solve this myserti!

Thank you!

I feel like we could better answer your question if we knew basics like, what year, mods done, mileage... DD or track car, etc.

Does this video harmonize with your problem? [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwoMUejhs_Q[/ame]

Could be the U joints on the drive shaft. There are 3 of them.

I thought your car was a 17 and up form the taillights... So no warranty coverage.

Are you 100% certain its not the CV joint? I removed my clicking axle at maybe about 60K miles-ish and removed the boot. The grease was completely liquified. It pored out like it was oil, not grease.

A 2013 lowered 86 with a bad original axle is no surprise to me. Even expected. Just throwing that out there.

I am also thinking CV joint, and the reason it's not clicking more is just because you lifted it up and are putting only rotational stress on the CV joint, not rotational and tire/road resistance. Sounds like you just need to re-grease the joint and inspect the boot for cracks, replace if necessary (not in that order lol).
