2017 FT-86 More power for manual but not for automatic transmission

According to Car & Driver, more power and torque came from

"The BRZ’s 2.0-liter flat-four has less internal friction and increased airflow, resulting in a small uptick in output of 5 horsepower and 5 lb-ft of torque, for new totals of 205 and 156. Aided by slightly shorter gearing, acceleration is claimed to be improved—at least with the standard six-speed manual gearbox. Neither the higher output nor the different gearing applies to cars with the optional six-speed automatic transmission"

I suppose the engine and intake/exhaust are common for all Toybarus, regardless of transmission. I wonder how they achieve different power for the two transmission, unless the programming is different? Any idea?

Because there probably is a power increase it's just lost through the automatic transmission

Toyota should explore DCT or PDK transmission tech maybe in the 2 gen we'll see a better case for AT. Though personally I'm happy with way the AT responds on the twins.

This is Toyota's way of trying to convince people to buy a manual.

Serious questions, wouldn't that raise the price tag tho? Would be nice to have that DCT tho lol.

While that sounds nice, the price increase for that I wouldn't buy it. And I'm sure a lot of others wouldn't either.

What is the cheapest dual clutch out there right now?

Considering that the 205 number is bhp and measured before the transmission, and I really doubt Subaru will be making completely different engines for each transmission, I have to assume that Car & Driver doesn't have their information correct.

I wouldn't mind something like what the 370z's manual transmission has where it rev matches for you.

DCT is most likely a cost issue. It would appeal to a smaller audience that is willing to pay maybe 2-3k more than a regular automatic transmission.

I don't think it's being made anymore, but didn't the Lancer Ralliart come with a dual clutch?

Maybe the auto has a less aggressive tune?
