Are splitters and diffusers permitted in this class?

Even in $M you can't use a diffuser; only a front splitter.

This may have been asked before, but what is the ballpark cost to take a stock FRS and make it a competitive STX car?

Oh HELL, loaded question. Cheap to national champ. Personnel experience is to do the EVO school, both phases, $500.
Tires. The RE71R to start with. A dedicated set otherwise you could be buying another set within a year. They don't wear that well???? Sways f/r ~$400, springs/coilovers ~$400-12000. The list goes on. Check out Counter space garage, evasive MotorSport, RCE, Ft86 Speed factory, circuit MotorSport. If you buy used $4-7K should do it. It CAN get pricey. Just keep your budget in check and stick to it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Must haves: 9" wide wheels & 245 tires in a competitive compound: $1k-$2k+ Header & tune: $1k-$2k+ Suspension; coilovers, camber plates, rear lcas, $2k-$12k+ Good alignment and Brake pads and fluid and then odds and ends to taste (sways, intake exhaust, bushings, weight reduction, etc.) And that's pretty much the recipe. |

One of the best parts about owning an impractical car is that a LOT of people buy them, mod them, realize they're impractical and then promptly part-out. Everything I bought for my car I bought used with the exception of the Helix mirrors lol I have a very basic STX build; KWv3, 17x9 Varrstoens, 245/40 RE-11, Perrin front sway, TRD rear sway, CAI, cat-back and OFT tune...all in I'm at about $4k. I'm usually top 1/3 locally, probably would be bottom 1/3 at a ProSolo.

I bought pretty much everything new.
It's best not to add it up lol. I just picked up a set of those Kosei K6R on closeout, too, so I don't have to put thousands of street miles on the re71s. |

I bought a set of used 17x7 RPF1s last summer. They came with half worn 235x40 R17 ZIIs. My plan was to try my hand at an autocross event in the stock class. I never got around to it but about a month ago I got a good deal on a set of KW V3 coils I couldn't say no to... That'll bump me up to STX... how bad do I need wheels and tires? 7 inches is undersized in this class and I'll probably get weird characteristics from the 235 tires squeezed on to the little rims.

That being said, I'm going to be doing autox in STX with 17x8s running 225/45 ZII* (because that's going to be my track setup). I have a header, but it isn't installed yet as I'm still figuring out/piecing together what I want for the rest of my exhaust before installing/tuning. I might be alright in Chicago region, but I know that I'll be out-gunned if I venture up to any Milwaukee events (or any of those guys head down here). lol Just go out and have fun, and try to work on driver mod. If you can trade up your 17x7s to some 17x8s or 17x9s, that might not be a bad idea. But if you aren't really gunning for top spots I wouldn't worry about it too much.

IF you are modding up to STX and want to be competitive you have to go all in. That means making all the mods that are allowable and common. Otherwise you will be left behind. It gets expensive, but the car runs and handles so much better.
